Running when computer idle

Post by Blaiserboy »

I have recently installed Version 6.23, I am not sure that it is running when my computer is idle.

I have a gateway 4 processor machine, I am thinking that FAF is running in one processor only.....

Can someone clarify as to how to let the FAH have access to the whole machine when machine is idle. (in a simple manner, please. lol)

Thanks

It would help to know what OS you have and what the CPU is (single core or multiple cores).

I'm pretty sure a Gateway would be running Windows, and I gather he has a quad-core (=4-processor).

Welcome to the forums and the project, Blaiserboy.

You are correct that the 6.23 client listed on the main download page only runs on one CPU core. There are two options currently to get the most out of your processor:

1. Run 4 copies of the 6.23 Classic client. If you do, make sure to install each one in a separate folder. The installation guide has instructions for how to do this: http://folding.stanford.edu/English/WinUNIGuide

2. Run the SMP client, which is found on the High-Performance Clients page http://folding.stanford.edu/English/DownloadWinOther Note that this client can take more effort to set up than 4xClassic clients, may take more effort to keep running, and has much shorter deadlines. If you don't usually have your computer on for long periods of time, then you should not use this one. Missing the deadlines hurts the project and wastes power.
