mac mini bet

Ok guys, I have a question.
A couple of weeks ago I made a bet with this guy. Dude kept telling me how fast his Mac mini is.
Every sentence was,
My mac this, my Mac that. Your pc sucks ha ha ha
My mac doesnt get virus infections<-so what, i've never had a problem with WinXP
My mac is fast, your pc is so slow

What processor and video combo should I use?
This will be done right around tax time so im thinking of a budget around $800-1000

And by the way go with a 64bit OS there is no such thing as a 64bit virus. And quite frankley MAC's are just over priced yuppie toys. The mini is only 2.53GHz Cor 2 duo just build around the Q9550 you can build a machine that will kick it's but for less than what a mini cost. As far as graphics go just about any graphics card will beat the mini it has on board graphics.

Just curious but what does that have to do with 64bit OS and viruses.

There’s more good news: the current rootkits that have been written for 32 bit systems, including the infamous Sony music CD rootkit, don’t work in the 64 bit OS. That’s because when updating the kernel code for the 64 bit version, Microsoft programmers took the opportunity to include a “patch guard” – code that is part of the kernel makes it impossible to install a patch in a running kernel (which kernel mode rootkits do on 32 bit systems).

Likewise, processor vendors had an opportunity, in making the new 64 bit processors, to include security mechanisms. Both AMD and Intel include code in their 64 bit products to prevent the exploitation of buffer overflow and buffer underrun conditions.

Since you don't seem to know: Viruses are not necessarily rootkits. As long as 32 bit code runs fine under a 64 bit OS, then lots of the old malware will still operate in a 64 bit OS. I wouldn't operate my 64 bit OS with no anti-virus, anti-spyware, firewalls, phishing filters because it is so safe that it doesn't need protection just because it is 64 bit.

64 bit OS's are not a magic bullet that prevents all malware. Microsoft is still releasing security patches every Tuesday. The AV market has not dried up and there are still security firms producing AV products for 64 bit software.

The security measures being used to protect x64 CPU's still apply to the same CPU's operating in an x32 environment. The security measures being used in the x64 OS's are the same as the security measures protecting users in the x32 environment (for the same OS at the same level of service pack). i.e. the security measures protecting x64 Win 7 are the same as the measures being used to protect the x32 Win 7 but Win XP protections will be different than Win 7 but it has nothing to do with x64 vs x32.

A person does not need an x64 OS to be protected from malware!

While some 32bit spyware,and ineffective viruses may be able to run on the 32bit side of the OS they can not affect the 64bit. The only viruses ever found were back in 2004 and 2005 by Norton and guess what they were never confirmed by anybody. What a sales tool for AV companies. There is no such thing as a 64bit virus at this time. Do I say their will never be no I do not but at this time that 64bit system is a pretty good silver bullet.
