171.64.65.64 (Windows SMP) problem

Post by Fireclown »

According to serverstats, it's DL has only 1 day left. I am constantly stuck in the following loop:

[15:23:06] Connecting to http://assign.stanford.edu:8080/
[15:23:07] Posted data.
[15:23:07] Initial: 40AB; - Successful: assigned to (171.64.65.64).

[15:26:55] - Attempt #1 to get work failed, and no other work to do.
Waiting before retry.

[15:27:10] Connecting to http://171.64.65.64:8080/
[15:29:10] Posted data.
[15:30:08] Initial: 484A; - Error: Bad packet type from server, expected work assignment
[15:30:08] - Attempt #2 to get work failed, and no other work to do.
Waiting before retry.

Also interesting to note is there is always a 2 minute pause between connecting to the server and the "Posted data" message, if that helps at all.

The "bad packet" message generally means that you're communicating through a proxy that is doing bad things to some of the protocol messages.

Or maybe that you don't accept big WUs ?

No I do accept big WU's, and I am certainly not intentionally using a proxy.

I am in South Africa and we have a pretty small pipe overseas, and I think my ISP proxies all traffic "transparently". Guess its more like "slightly opaquely" than transparently. They do it to conserve international bandwidth but I have occasionally had issues that would be explained by a proxy before. After a while I eventually do get a WU but I do get the above error quite a few times. I will report this to my ISP.

Thank you for the responses.

I'm experiencing a very similar issue : "Error: Bad work unit. Digital signatures don't match" & "Initial: 0000; - Error: Bad packet type from server, expected work assignment"

I tried the usual tricks, deleting the core, queue.dat and work folder to no avail, I keep getting bad WUs from this server.

-----EDIT-----

The server stopped sending me crap WU on or around 0115 GMT
