Can't connect GPU2 6.23 to any assignment server

Just as the topic states and I have used the search function to no avail. I am just plain not connecting to anything even after 10 or 11 tries and it does not even display an ip address that it is attempting to get. Maybe someone here can help me but I've tried everything from using console version instead of tray/gui to disabling the firewall and making sure that both ports 80 and 8080 are connectible (and I checked they are). I've also tried installing new ATi drivers and made sure that the system clock was correct. I've even rebooted... Is there anything I am not thinking of that I should try to do to remedy this?

Can you connect to http://assign2.stanford.edu or http://assign.stanford.edu:8080 with your browser?

If the browser works, it's a local problem. Since FAH is unable to connect to any server including the Assignment Servers, it's very likely that you have security software that is blocking FAH from making any connections to the internet. This is sometimes called an Outgoing Firewall or perhaps Anti-Spyware but I've seen this functionality in other security suites without the fancy names. Start by temporarily disabling your security software while FAH attempts to connect. You'll know if my guess is correct depending on whether a WU is downloaded.

Once you confirm that it's your security software, you'll need to figure out how to grant an exception that gives the FAH software permission to establish a connection to the internet.

I suppose I should have made my first post more clear... I have no, and I even checked the processes list, security software running. Browser can go to both addresses I knew that already and I knew the problem was local but I can't figure out what since the obvious 'security software is blocking access' is not the answer.

Edit: Checked on another machine to find it wasn't an isolated incident but rather network wide... disabled some options that mysteriously weren't enabled in my routers firewall before that were now and were blocking the traffic.
