CPU and GPU console on Vista

Post by Crozz »

Hey guys!

I've a small problem.
On my computer, I run Vista and have two accounts. Both are admin accs.
When I install CPU and GPU through the console as install as service, then nothing happens. Everytime people uses my computer, I first start my acc and then F@H before someone else can use the computer and access the second acc.
Why doesn't it start auto? It works fine on our XP computer home, but probably because it only has one account without password.

Any ideas?

I don't know about the GPU client, but certainly a service running the CPU client starts before anyone logs in and keeps running while various accounts log in and out. Are you sure that you're not starting a client with a shortcut in startup or something like that?

I believe that when a client is installed as a service there's no visible evidence on the desktop- it doesn't automatically open something in the taskbar or the system tray. If you use a monitoring client like FahMon and point that at the installation directory(ies), that should tell you whether they're running or not.

Check the box for View Processes from all users. Then check to see if any fah_cores are running.

I've checked and FaHMon says F@H isn't running and no process are running on my computer from F@H.

Open the Service manager (Start menu --> All Programs --> Administrative Tools --> Services OR Start Menu --> enter "services.msc") and check if there are entries that say "Folding@Home-CPU-[Machine ID]".

By the way, the GPU console does not work as a service on Vista. It says that on the Download page.
Windows Vista GPU Console client (note running as a service does not work in Vista).

Yes, I know that. I just wrote that to see if there was any way to fix it.
Maybe I should just create a .bat file and put it in autostart folder?

By the way guys. I'm starting to get troubales with Geforce 8800GT. When its 99% done with the WU, then suddenly it says "EUE Limited exceeded. Pausing 24 hours."
Why is this problem appearing? I've losed points because of this, and have didnät recieved any last days.
Shall I install a older client? Because I'm running the latest version.

I got the CPU to work now, I was so stupid and forgot to "Run as administrator". Well, now CPU works :)

Have you tried the NV memory tester? Won't test the GPU, but if the GPU memory is a problem, you will know for sure if it needs to be RMAd.
