Re: V7.5.1 "Failed to read stream"
Does it work if you disable all the slots, then enable one at a time?

Re: New FAH software stopped on core download
Not sure what happened, but the issue seems to be fixed. I also downloaded that new client in the browser. Thank you for all of your help!
Re: New FAH software stopped on core download
It would be very helpful if we can understand what happened.
You'll find the current log in the data directory and find a number of older logs in the 'cores' subdirectory. The only ones that matter are after the segment you posted above. The key words are "Downloading core from" followed by several other important messages.
Please locate segments where cores failed to download (like these) or successfully downloaded (like this)

Re: New FAH software stopped on core download
Similar issue here unfortunately. Have tried downgrading to 7.4.4 and that doesn't seem to work either. Tried numerous reinstalls.
Downloading the fah file via the browser works (though I am behind cisco cws proxy sometimes. Doesn't make a difference if i turn it off)
I can't open the client or right click it in the tray
The log usually stays stuck like this
I think i had this issue when I first upgraded to 7.5.1 but it eventually fixed itself but i dont recall what fixed it. It just seemed to magically work on day...

Re: New FAH software stopped on core download
I did the unthinkable and temporarily disabled Malwarebytes and everything loaded fine. Back to normal folding after a few days of trying everything suggested by this thread except the easiest.
I did add FAHclient.exe to the exceptions both in Malwarebytes and Windows Defender but it didn't work so I'll never know if Windows Defender was ever the problem but Malwarebytes certainly was.
The symptom was from the log:
"an established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine."
Caveat: Before disabling Malwarebytes this morning, I updated the Windows Defender and its definitions as well as Windows Updates. So much for a methodical approach to problem solving.
Why did it break in the first place? The night before it broke I uploaded Malwarebytes and Windows updates as well as NVIDIA driver updates.

Re: New FAH software stopped on core download
Windows Defender and Malwarebytes (and other firewalls) use more than one methodology to protect you from specific types of threats. The feature which is often called "spyware protection" is designed to protect you from unauthorized connections which upload data (such as your Social Security Number) to evil sites. They generally add automatic exclusions for all the commonly used browsers so you'll never catch them interfering with your browsing. Unfortunately FAHClient.exe is not on their list so by default, they block FAHClient from uploading and/or downloading data. You have to add that exception yourself.Hagerstrom wrote:Why did it break in the first place? The night before it broke I uploaded Malwarebytes and Windows updates as well as NVIDIA driver updates.
Some firewalls don't block such connections; others check the program name; others check the program's checksum or a software pattern. In the latter case, replacing FAHClient.exe Verson N with Version N+1 can require a new exception.

Re: New FAH software stopped on core download
One of the Cores needed an update this morning but FAHClient/Control wasn't able to do it because Malwarebytes Real-time protection was enabled and even though I had added to the exclusion list:
Website: cores.foldingathome.org;
Application Web processes: FAHClient.exe; c:\ProgramFiles (X86)\FAHClient\: FAHClient.exe, FAHControl.exe, FAHCoreWrapper.exe. (All separate line entries, of course).
I disabled Malwarebytes again and restarted FAHClient and the core updated. I then reenabled Malwarebytes. Perhaps I am not properly defining the exclusions or I am missing something.
Separate issue is that FAHClient didn't auto-start on reboot (maybe misconfigured the last time I reinstalled FAHInstall 7.5.1. I have CPU and GPU slots.

Re: New FAH software stopped on core download
I've seen other comments about auto-start not working. This may be an installer bug or some obscure change introduced by MS (If you're running Win10). (I never ran into it myself but all my installs of 7.5.1 were upgrades from intermediate versions.)

Re: New FAH software stopped on core download
This problem was reported to Malwarebytes and an Application update from Malwarebytes has resolved the issue!
PantherX wrote: I still have the exceptions so in case anyone else faces this issue, updating the application module will resolve it.I have been using the Malwarebytes application and the F@H for more than a year. However, this month, it seems that Malwarebytes is
blocking the F@H application from downloading some important files which it requires to function correctly. I thought that I can create the exceptions which I did (attached is
the screenshot) but that didn't work. The only way I made it work was to quit Malwarebytes to allow it to download the component and then restarted Malwarebytes. Moreover, it
seems to be an issue that other people also encounter as seen above It would be great if this can be investigated and resolved ASAP

Re: MalwareBytes
I run MBAM v3.5.1 as well as Norton Security Suite v22.14.2.13, and have no explicit exclusions listed. F@H runs just fine.
I have to temporarily disable Norton when I upgrade the F@H client, because F@H does not pass Norton's 'enough users' test.

Re: New FAH software stopped on core download
I had to use my phone as a hotpsot also to install new program. Strange.
