Please install at least v285.xx, if not 301.xx.

Alrighty, upgraded to 301.42

Im going to let it sit for a bit and see if it wants to actually start updating the core or not.

Thanks thus far for all your help, everyone.

I know of two possible bugs where a core fail / hang when updating.
If your LAN supports IPV6, the client cannot download a core (#505) and another I can't find right now if the client is installed for "everyone"

Alrighty, its been a few hours, and its still doing its unknown update thing to the core. The viewer is also still only showing demo.

Any other suggestions?

Assuming that the issue to download the FahCore is due to IPv6 (bruce's post), and you still want to fold on the mobile GPU, you can give v6 a try as (last I heard), it does work with Nvidia GPUs.

The viewer shows the demo for a lot of people. It's on the Pande Group's to-do list and they'll get to it. The fact that it's showing the demo is not your fault in any way.

Until the IPV6 bug is fixed, the work-around that most people are using is to disable IPV6 on their machine. Open the properties panel for the windows internet adapter and remove the checkmark from IPV6. (I don't remember if you have to restart Windows or not. Probably just FAH V7)

In Windows7, you can start Control Panel, choose Network and Sharing Center and then Change Adapter Settings. Right-click on the adapter you're using and choose Properties.

There are other ways to get to the Adapter, and you can use any of them.

I think I need to be more specific, sorry for the confusion.

I was under the impression that the core update was needed for more folding, so having both working at once is better.
I was curious about the viewer and how to get it to work, as a secondary objective.

Are these things one and the same, or are they separate? If separate, how do I go about fixing the core update? Does that require v6 of this program? Or is that just for the visual?

Sorry for my lack of knowledge, and thanks again for all your contributions of said nessesary knowledge.

As bruce described, fixing the core download issue requires that you disable IP v6 in the network settings of Windows.

There is nothing you can do to fix the viewer except to be patient. We are all waiting for Pande Group to fix that in a new version of the software.
