I have had no problems with this machine, ever, and am at a loss to understand why EUE's are getting thrown. Nothing changed on this machine, although I am attempting to run the Deino SMP client on another machine here on my home network. I cleaned off the work directories and all cores too, hoping that something got corrupted. Machine is XP Server 2003, fully up to date and all that. The account is one with admin privs. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Dan

Does your hardware have SSE2 support?

FahMon reports "finished" because nothing else has started yet.

It is a dual proc, Pentium PRO Xeon, 333MHz. I do not think it has SSE, much less SSE2.

CPUID blather:

This processor does not support Extended CPUID functions.
CPUID indicates no SSE[2] support on it. Are there cores that require it but do not indicate such a requirement? Or is it time to retire this machine from FAH?

As an aside, these EUE WUs contributed almost 200 WUs to my total. Extremeoverclocking is showing me at 2419 and the FAH stats site is 2614! If they are legitimate EUEs, I would like to keep doing it because they are fast and contribute a few points every time.

Family 6, Model 5 is a Pentium II class processor (Pentium II, Celeron, Pentium II Xeon) ... it has no special instructions support that are usable for FAH (3Dnow, SSE, SSE2 depending on what the core supports) : it will fold using standard FPU loops.

Oh right. Not PPro, PII Xeon. Can you (or anyone) tell me if there is something wrong with the machine or if these EUEs are legit?

Right now, I tried it again and it pulled down a different core (fahcore_78.exe) instead of using fahcore_7c.exe, for a WU in the 4440 group. Perhaps the Double Gromacs C core doesn't work so well on a PII?

If it crops up again I'll post again.

The scientific core is designed to autodetect the presence of SSE2, and only run SSE2 instructions if they are applicable; this works on the machines I tested with.

Perhaps if the CPU is old enough (not even SSE), then the signal used to detect SSE2 is not available, and it defaults to SSE2?

CoMePrAdZ - I googled up that CPU and machines using it... Is this your machine?

That Xeon server is surely one of the oldest machines in the project. It must have been incredibly fast and powerful for its time -- but time has passed it by. It probably draws quite a bit of power as well. If you are using it only for Folding, perhaps it's time to donate it to a local school or community center, and start over with a newer machine. If you want to keep using it, please consider setting the WU size to small - That may help.

None of the "Double..." cores will work well on a PII. The others will provide acceptable results though they'll be slow. The only question here is how to make "Double ... C" either work acceptably or make sure this sort of work doesn't get assigned to you.

Thank you for reporting this issue, CoMePrAdZ

Sorry that I'm late,

Thanks guys for the reply.
Susato - my machine that ran them is a lappy with celeron 2.14 Ghz ... Poor machine ... :(
I uploaded them when my lappy got a problem with net connection, so i used cyber cafe to uploaded them. I have passed their deadline ... Big waste ... :(

But, thanks guys. You are the best :-)

FWIW, I ran into this again yesterday on the same dual 333MHz Pentium II machine with the same Double Gromacs Core on the same set of projects, 386x. Since the machine is only capable of generating about 8.8 PPD x 2, I have decided to retire it from FAH. I see that one of my other machines, a more modern laptop, is handling a project 3861 WU just fine, so I suspect that the code in Double Gromacs Core is simply not able to run w/o the SIMD extensions.
