Missing Points?

Post by geokilla »

First off, sorry if this is in the wrong forum, but I feel that it's best if I make the thread here.

I run Folding@Home, and sometimes my friends will be folding under my name as well. They run the NVIDIA GPU client and lately, it seems that the points are getting delayed by A LOT or missing altogether. Is it possible for someone to check this for us? There's no point in us running Folding@Home if the WU don't get sent and used by the F@H team.

If you want to check if the WUs have been sent, Open FAHlog or FAHlog-prev, which are found in the folder where the F@h clients are installed. If you scroll up to where a WU hit 100% completion, a little ways down will be text detailing the client's attempt to return the WU. If it says something along the lines of:

Attempting to send results[_timestamp_]
Results successfully sent
Thank you for your contribution to Folding@home
Number of Units Completed: xx

then the completed WU should be somewhere in Stanford's database.

Yesterday many of the servers, especially the stats servers, were down for maintenance, so they may still be trying to catch up from then.

If you post the Project/Run/Clone/Gen numbers, which can be found in the FAHlogs, mods can check the database to see if they've been returned/credited.

Ya the thing is, every WU gets sent in fine, but I swear some of my points are just.....missing. That or they're uber delayed. And this points missing/super delay isn't a recent thing, I've been getting this problem a long time ago.

I double checked my worklog and stuff before I posted, and it seems that points from me are showing up, just that they're over half a day slow yesterday, which may be due to the system maintenance over on the stats servers. As for my friend's worklog, I don't have access to them but he said his computer has been folding overnight for the past couple days, yet all the points seem to be coming from me. He can't really check now either since he won't be able to access his computer till Thursday.

As you noted, yesterday and today are not a good day to verify results or timing of those results due to the system outage.

The problem is, Mods can't check for missing WUs. There's nothing there to check. You have to do the leg work, collect the WU data from the logs, and then see if the point values for all those WUs matches your expected output. And best to watch the previous day, as there ARE delays in recording credits.

THEN if you are still missing a lot of WUs, document the PRCG numbers, and the FAH IDs from the clients not getting credits, and post them here for the Mods to check out.

Sure, the Mods here can help you check on this, but you have to do 90% of the work.

I think I may be missing points from this past weekend also ...

Can a mod please check to see if these WUs have credited properly?

@AgrFan: The guys at PG were doing some maintenance work on the servers over the weekend, so your WUs probably won't appear in the stats until some time later. Keep in mind that if your log file says that your WUs were submitted successfully, it is almost certain that they will get credited some time this week.

My PPD is typically 3K running the Notfred SMP client on two dual-core machines. It's dropped to 2.7K. Last week, I returned a 2653 WU, got credit for it and then didn't get any credit for any subsequent WUs for over a full day during the server maintenance. I normally complete 1-2 A2 WUs daily which made it easy to spot the timeframe in my logs where the points stopped being credited (1760 vs 1920). After the stats servers were brought back up, my points did catch up but it seemed like the number of WUs completed after the 2653 did not match the number of posted credits. I wasn't going to worry about it until I saw this post. I'm probably not missing any points, just want to make sure...

Whenever the stats have been down, there is a backlog of points to be credited. It's not uncommon for the points to be delayed, but it is uncommon for them to be lost permanently.

As Moderators, there's really nothing we can do until the Pande Group lets us know that they have completed the processing of that backlog. At that time, if you believe that points are still missing, we can check for you.

I just got over 6k points today, so it seems that PG might've caught up. My SMP WU was credited at the 9AM update over at EOC, I sent it in at around 10pm last night. Still wondering bout this long term delay/missing points that I COULD be experiencing though. The bad thing is that I'm basing everything on what my friend tells me since I don't actually have access to his logs...Guess I'll just have to trust the F@H team, which I do trust.

You might want to check your Notfred client. It's said that if you leave it alone for long periods of time, it'll run into errors.

I'm going to assume all of my WUs have been credited from last weekend until I hear otherwise. I returned a WU this morning and got credit for it this afternoon.

Both Notfred clients have been crunching SMP units for 6 months with no problems. I'm currently running version 081114 . The hang issue with the SMP client was fixed last year. If you're having problems, try upgrading to the latest version (090302).

If you're comfortable with that assumption, fine.

After a Stats outage, the points typically do NOT get credited in the order they were uploaded. It's common for new work (like the one you returned this morning) to start getting credited normally first. Then the accumulated backlog is processed, perhaps all at once, perhaps in several batches. I've heard nothing official, so I don't know if that's the sequence they are following now, and if so, how far along they are in the process.

hi
ok so i probably have missed the answer and this is probably not the place to ask but.

can anybody tell me where the work units i completed over the last 7 days (4 wus in number) have gone. i seem to have 1 credited on my stats but according to my monitor i have returned 4 - and the one credited isnt the first. - it's confusing for an idiot like me.
also i have a dual core processor but only 1 seems ever to be occupied folding even though it should have set itself for whatever my system is.
i run 9.04 ubuntu
can anybody suggest answers or point me at the right place so i can find out for myself
sorry again for such a basic question
cheers

Welcome to the folding forum, capnthommo.

First, check each FAhlog.txt carefully and make sure it gives your correct User Name and Team Number (displayed after every restart of the client). Second, include that information in your next post, along with the Project/Run/Clone/Gen numbers of the WUs that you suspect have not been credited.

The client, even though it's a unified client for Linux, needs to be told to run on both of your cores. If you don't specifically tell the client to run on more than one core, then you will need 2 instances (since you're running dual core) of the client running on classic uniprocessor mode. Otherwise, you could run one client on SMP mode to use your 2 cores. I don't know the specifics for either method, since I don't use Linux, but here is the Linux SMP guide (http://folding.stanford.edu/English/LinSMPGuide) and here is the uniprocessor guide (http://folding.stanford.edu/English/LinUNIGuide).
