I'm running 6.23 tray client. I have CA security center. I can see in the firewall log that the connection is allowed. I've turned off the spyware and snoozed the virus checker.

Welcome to the forum.

I checked the sever stats and both the severs are working. Try this type the sever IP into the address bar of your browser and see if you get and OK. The IP you want to check is 128.143.48.227

Sometimes the servers get busy, but I'm concerned that both the work server and backup collection server couldn't connect to to your system. Any chance you could disable the firewall temporarily to test the connection?

So, I've suspended virus and disabled the firewall. Stopped and started the client. Log still shows no go. Is the communication one way, from my system to the server? Or does the server reach back to grab the file?

Communication in this sense is always two-way. Your client sends a packet of information to the server and that server sends back an acknowledgement(ACK) that it received the packet. So, your internet setup must allow access in both directions.

True, but many firewalls block local software from initiating a new connection. Your browser is always given permission to contact the internet (you trust it, right?). Once the connection is established, it is a 2-way connection. If a piece of spyware manages to install itself without your knowledge, it is NOT given the rights to extablish a connection -- and the firewall is doing what it was designed to do.

Then when you install FAH, you have to inform your firewall that you trust the fah software and it should be allowed to establish a connection with Stanford.

(Not all firewalls protect against spyware like this. e-g- The Windows firewall does not.)

So, like I said, my firewall has folding@home.exe approved. I've tried with all virus, spyware and firewall turned off. Still will not send the packets.

The server status page (see link at the top of this page) reports that both work servers seem fine so it's probably just a matter of being patient. Unfortunately the two Collection Servers don't show on the server status page.

There are two types of problems -- ones in which you cannot connect to any server and one in which you cannot reach a particular server.

In cases where you cannot connect to any server, it's likely your firewall. We already went through that process last month and apparently you're able to get new WUs so you are able to establish connections, just not with the servers that these WU belong to.

In cases were it's just one server, there's a pretty good chance you're not having the problem, the server is. When you suspect it's a server problem, you should always try opening the IP address in your browser and if then post in the forum for problems with a particular server. In this case, servers 130.49.240.* are down. (You'll find that information in that forum.) Similarly, I cannot get the "OK" message from 128.143.48.227 although 128.143.48.226 seems to be working. The next thing I'm going to do is check that forum and see if there is a report regarding either of those servers.

In any case, it's not really a problem with the Windows uniprocessor client, so I'm going to move this discussion topic to the server forum.

Looks like 130.49.240.81 is down and i'm not sure I read the status for 130.49.240.77
