Have you tried disabling Resident Shield? If that lets your client connect, add it to Resident shield too. (Manage exceptions)cathc wrote:I have allowed folding@home.exe in my avg pup exception list.

Re: blocking?
Don't take the AV offline, just configure it to allow fah to connect. Or as a test, take the AV offline for a few minutes, and see if that helps fah. If yes, you can investigate further how to configure the AV correctly. If not, look elsewhere.cathc wrote:Well the only thing left to try is to uninstall my av. Is there anything else windows could be doing to block?
If i take my av out i have no protection in place at all apart from anything windows has built in.
Is it possible that the client hasn't realised i've reconfigured so that I'm no longer routing through the proxy and failing to get beyond that point?
[21:10:32] - Proxy: 217.146.181.34:80 <--- as long as this is gone from the latest startup in the fahlog, then the fah client should not be trying to use the proxy.

Re: blocking?
Thanks 7im
I have disabled resident shield but no joy so far. i had already allowed the url's bruce listed in resident shield exceptions but have now added the f@h folder. Resident shield excepts paths or lists, not programmes. I have allowed f@h in the pup exceptions for the scanners.
I can't see a way to disable other components separately without uninstalling the av. I must admit I share your caution over doing that! I am feeling somewhat naked!
Is there anything on the internet options box that could be the problem? I have added the url's to trusted sites zone, and allowed stanford.edu in the privacy tab sites list. Have i overlooked anything there?

Re: blocking?
Lists or paths? Do you mean IP addresses or URLs?
Add all the IP addresses from the Server Status page linked at the top.

Re: blocking?
Lists is ip addresses and paths is to folders.
I have now added all the ip addresses from the Server Status page linked at the top, but resident shield is still disabled. Do you want me to re-enable it?

Re: blocking?
When you run multiple layers of security, it's not easy to figure out which one is doing the blocking. I would disable each one selectively. In my experience, AVG is more likely the one doing the blocking than Windows Firewall and S&D is probably somewhere between those two. Shut down AVG entirely and leave Windows Firewall and S&D both enabled. What happens? If there's no joy there, then shut down S&D as well. If that lets you get through, next time you can try it again with AVG running. Once you know that disabling/enabling one of them makes a difference, then you can look for ways to configure that one to allow exceptions for folding@home.exe.cathc wrote:I have now turned off my windows firewall and uninstalled my spybot search and destroy.
I have f@h and the url’s bruce listed allowed in my internet options security and privacy tabs.
I have allowed folding@home.exe in my avg pup exception list. Is there any other file extension I need to allow there?
I have allowed the url’s in avg’s exception list as well. Unless there is any other way windows can be blocking you I have no other security functions.
I am still not receiving work packets.
Could there be a software conflict issue?

Re: blocking?
I have now uninstalled avg. I can see no other way to disable it.
I have switched windows firewall back on.
I uninstalled s&d earlier.
I have disabled peerguardian
The only security now operating is windows firewall plus anything else windows has built in.
I don't know how long till I can be sure f@h is not responding, but certainly no instant response.
although i had uninstalled avg it did not disappear from add/remove hardware. I applied unlocker, and although it is still persisting in some form i finally got the panic balloon saying i had no av, and f@h now says it's working!!
I will now start adding layers back in and see what happens.
Thanks for the help. Sorry it's taken so much fathoming.
