New Folding maps released

Post by ihaque »

Hi all,

I've just uploaded a couple of fresh maps of Folding@home activity to the web. They're pretty similar, but cluster the data slightly differently. One of them maps the number of WUs received (over all of F@h's history) from each area on the globe, while the second does the same thing, but counts distinct IP addresses instead of total WUs.

The best way to view these maps is by loading them into Google Earth. They'll also work in Google Maps, if you enter the URL for the KMZ file into the search field (or use the direct links below), but they'll lag up your browser (also, you'll have to zoom in to a region of choice to see any color other than blue).

Breakdown by IPs (KMZ file) Breakdown by WUs (KMZ file)

Enjoy!

Edit:
For those of you who are interested, geolocation was done using the MaxMind GeoLite City database, and the map itself was generated using the Perl Geo::KML::PolyMap module. As part of the license agreement for GeoLite, I must include the following statement:
This product includes GeoLite data created by MaxMind, available from http://www.maxmind.com/
