Keep getting "Could not get Work unit data from Work Server"

Post by frazelle09 »

Am running a CoreDuo 1.8 w/PCLinuxOS and haven't had this error in a long time. Any idea as to what is happening?

Have a great evening! :)

When you post in at "General-FAH" you have to tell us which OS you're running (You did that: Linux) and which type of WUs you're looking for (smp? or uniprocessor?). The best way to do that is to post the applicable sections of FAHlog.txt. It's also useful to know if you're using the -advmethods setting and which you've selected: Small/Normal/Big

It's possible that certain servers have run out of work assignments, but it helps to know which severs need help. Since new WUs will be generates as soon as somebody turns in some results, you may have already gotten a new assignment by now or you may still have to wait patiently a while longer.

Cody asked some good questions and you gave some useful information but there are still some things to check.

How much RAM is on that Core2Duo?

Please post the first page or so of FahLog.txt. Apparently you're running the classic client but it's not clear what version it is. Apparently you're accepting only Small WUs and you don't have any additional settings -- but those would be confirmed in the log.

Please be more generous with the segments of FahLog that you posted. Additional information from the lines before and after what you included would have helped.

As far as I can see, server 171.64.122.138 has plenty of WUs and it's not overloaded, so I don't have a good explanation yet.

When i first noticed that the program was not folding i checked and indeed i had tried to start another instance. i shut it down and attempted to run folding again in the other Kong window and have gotten this type of report ever since. i'm currently on attempt # 15.

Our machine had 1 Gb of RAM. i'll shut this one down and do a reboot and see what happens.

Thanks again for replying and have a great afternoon! :)

Well, version 4 is really old and there are very few servers that can still deliver work to it.

If you have Win98, you might have a good reason for not upgrading, but I thought you said you were in Linux.

Server .138 does appear to be functioning normally and it has plenty of WUs to assign.
Are you able to open http://171.64.122.138:8080/ in your browser?
Have there been any changes to your internet security software since this was working?

i didn't realize i had to upgrade. No problem. i'll go to the main website and see if i can d/l the newest version. In my Folding subdirectory i have FAHCore 78, 79, 81, 82 and a0.

When i try the URL i get: OK.

Thanks for the help and i'll report back. Have a great evening! :)

The client manages the upload/download queue but contains no analysis code. The FahCore 78, 79, 81, and a0 are various analysis methods that have been used on specific projects and new ones are downloaded on-demand. You're responsible for upgrading the client, since there are enough changes between v4 and v5 and v6 that you probably need to consider the configuration settings for the new options.

Thanks Bruce. At this point i don't think it's a prob. w/ Folding but with my router and ethernet card. i can't get videos to display either so it doesn't look like a Fold. problem.

Where do i get the configuration options? Is it the list that first appears when i start folding for the first time. The one which checks our Team number, user name, etc.?

Have a great evening! :)

Yes, plus the command-line parameter options which have changed, too.

I think you're saying the V4 would still be working just fine if your local problems were fixed. That will be reassuring to the owner of that server who may be reading this and wondering what changed on his end.

buenas noches :)

Could I just say I found this advice about upgrading very helpful - and my problem machine was a windows one.
May be client could log and/or pop up a message when a new version is available.

Yes, that would be pretty cool... BTW it looks like a lot of my problems w/internet were due to a faulty NIC. Duh.

Glad this was of some help! Have a great evening! :)
