Firewall: Which IPs/URLs do I need to allow access to?

Post by Arcking »

I'd like to run FAH on a few computers that are behind a firewall that only allows access to white-listed sites. Which IPs or URLs do I need to white-list in order for FAH to be able work properly (download/submit WUs)?

Thanks.

It's iptables so I can open ports, but the reason the firewall is in place to is limit internet access to a specific set of websites. I need a specific URL or IP to open traffic to for FAH. I know one of my FAH instances connects to vspm27.Stanford.EDU (currently), but I assume that changes based on the WU. I guess I could open all traffic to stanford.edu, but I'd prefer to be more selective.

Check the link at the top of this page called "Server Status" for a list of current servers. (You'll also need www.stanford.edu.) Servers are added or deleted occasionally so the only real white-list would include all of Stanford's addresses plus the few that you see from the other sites that belong to science collaborators.

Thanks for the insight. It looks as if white-listing *.stanford.edu is going to be the only viable option.
