delete or wait?

Post by mikesmusic »

I'm running the windows gui client 5.03 but this is of general interest maybe.
The wiki
http://fahwiki.net/index.php/How_do_I_k ... they_do%3F
says that deleting a job is a last option.

I have two completed project 4418 jobs that won't upload despite my client's repeated attempts to "sell " them to the server.

Code: Select all

[22:40:06] Printing Queue Information
CURRENT QUEUE:
00  EMPTY
01  EMPTY
02  EMPTY
03  EMPTY
04  EMPTY
05  EMPTY
06  DONE      "Folding@Home" (81) 171.64.122.72:8080  October 30 00:30->October 30 21:59:21
07  DONE      "Folding@Home" (81) 171.64.122.72:8080  October 31 18:00->November 1 17:01:43
08 *READY     "Folding@Home" (78) 171.64.122.136:8080  November 1 17:24 | December 24 17:24
09  EMPTY
Does anybody have any thoughts on how long I should let my long suffering client hang on to these two orphans?
If I do delete 'em will i have to go and clean up my work folder?
Thanks

edit 1: fixed my bad link!

I'd give 'em a few days. The Project is suffering from network problems, and they may eventually upload. Do you know when the deadlines for them are?

I wouldn't worry too much unless the queue builds to 8 or 9 WUs without success. If you want, occasionally stop the client and run it with the -send all switch to see if it prompts a server to respond better. The client makes more frequent attempts on startup.

You might also think about upgrading to the v6.20 Systray client. It is a stable release.

4418s stay alive for 10 days before expiring so you should be ok. The work server for it, 171.64.122.78, is currently in REJECT mode. I've posted a note in the Issue with a server section so someone will take a look at this. The results will be sent back after the fix the clogged server.

Thanks people. I'll hang in there.

I note my client is trying to submit these jobs to 171.64.122.72.

Is that a problem or do these servers have some kind of cooperative thing going where 171.64.122.78 is the ultimate destination?

*scratches head* I might have been hasty there. You said project 4418, for which the server is x.78. However, as you mention, and I see it now in your log, it has x.72 listed as the work server. Somebody else will need to figure this out. In any case, I've added another note, this time in the correct place :oops:

Be sure that your client is configured with "Use IE settings?" turned off. If you have that option selected you'll have real troubles uploading, even of nothing else is wrong.

I recommend you just ignore them. If your client is configured correctly and it's a problem with the servers, trying to "sell" them will make the problem worse. If the WUs expire before the servers can be fixed (unlikely, but possible) the client will clean up the files automatically.
