Expensive, but useless

Post by ferrari12508 »

For example, each year we generate 50,000 gigabytes of data and just backing that up costs $25,000 in LTO-2 tapes. Every little bit helps!
That is what it says on the donor page. For $150 or less even you can get a 1TB Hard Drive. For the $25000 you pay now, you could get 166 1TB hard drives if they were $150 each.

That is a 1TB drive I am looking at, and its only $120. As for reliability, who knows. but you could but over 200 of those and make 3 back ups of everything. I doubt you would be so unlucky as to lose all 4 drives for one set of information. I realize tapes are probably longer lasting, but with four copies of everything, I doubt you will lose it. Just a thought!

*Edit* I realize with formatting, only 930GBs or so will be there, but you would still have enough space.
