Re: Memory leak @ 2416

Post by matsu_pl »

I've got the same behaviour with project 2416 (run 33, clone 30, gen 5).
The last line in log is: "Writing local files", and then the memory usage grows to at least 800MB (VM Size from Windows XP Task Manager). This happens after a restart as well.

The WU is available here: http://matsu.loana.org/files/p2416_33-30-5.zip

I just encountered a similar problem with 2416. Sorry, I didn't keep the WU.

Hmmm...

I got the same WU as mentioned in the OP:

Code: Select all

Launch directory: c:\folding4
Executable: c:\folding4\fah504-console.exe
Arguments: -local -verbosity 9 -forceasm

Warning:
By using the -forceasm flag, you are overriding
safeguards in the program. If you did not intend to
do this, please restart the program without -forceasm.
If work units are not completing fully (and particularly
if your machine is overclocked), then please discontinue
 use of the flag.

I happened to be at the computer, so I noticed it had become too slow (using swap memory since FAH + other programs filled all of 1GB.) I restarted the computer and let just FAH run. It had a weird seesaw memory usage pattern (backing down about 120 megs every now and then but steadily increasing up to 800 megs before I killed it again.)
Tried it on another architecture (an X2 instead of the P4) and the same thing happened.

I suppose the preferred deadline passed and the unit was reissued? The wudata_*.xyz file is an exact byte-by-byte copy of the file posted by czonkin. the .dat file is slightly different but I suppose it's machine specific..

Anybody want my backup or can I delete it?

Ivoshiee asked for it on the previous page. I don't know if he got it.

This WU shouldn't be in the circulation. It is known faulty WU. Just delete it.

it is very interesting, but I managed to finish(or maybe not) several 2416 wus, and I didn't notice any increase in ram usage, though I have 2gb, but still I would have seen if something wrong. too bad fahmon does not count how many exact wu's were finished and if they were finished.

If the memory leak is confirmed, it's limited to a specific WU, not to an entire project. There are lots of p2416's that have been completed successfully.

FahMon does not keep track of history, but the stats do. You can see how many WU from each project you've uploaded. Unfortunately it doesn't tell you how many were completed and how many were for partial credit.

Too many useless "stones" may get you yet another 3rd party developer who will throw in the dowel and leave for more peaceful fields. We have seen it before and will likely see it again...
