One day, you (and maybe with your kid), walk down the street, and 3 men walk past you.

If they hurl profanities at you, you have a right to be offended.
If they hurl profanities at each other and you hear it and are offended, you should not, and do not have a right, to silence them.
If they are your colleagues/acquaintances, you may politely request them not to use such words, but you do not have a right to silence them.

Just like how people with absolutely horrid fashion sense stroll down the street, the fashion-lite can't tell them "don't wear this, be fashionable like me!"

Are you really trying to defend exposing young children to sex or otherwise offensive names? If so, you really need some guidance to show you the harm that such can do: Perhaps a religious official, or a teacher, if your parents are not avail to help.

No, he is saying that it is impossible to prevent all exposure from all children. That's why it's better to educate our children than to simply try to shelter them. That's why you supervise their online time. That's why you have the chat about the birds and bees in a safe and unoffensive manner before they learn about it at school, on TV, or online, which is more likely to be of the offensive type.

The responses here are simply amazing from one extreme to the other. The intent was not for a debate here. :(

It is very funny reading the posters that mention the internet is not being filtered with any oversight.

Strangely enough, if that is the case, then why or why are there forum Moderators on the internet at every forum I've visited? If the internet is that free, then the filth, trash and sewer talk would prevail. (Kinda like CB radio.)

Just about every forum I've ever joined on the internet asks if you are a person 13 years of age or older when registering.

And why are there so many comments in this thread making assumptions about my personal usage of the internet when they know nothing about me??? That person either needs to grow up and stop pushing their own agenda by polluting our youths minds further down the gutter. The last thing we need is another fall of a great society like the Roman Empire did. It's enemies didn't need to take on the Roman garrison, they only had to wait it out for the society to cave in before pillaging it.

Romans? The US survived the 1st Great Depression, they'll probably survive this next one. But I don't know which are worse, the politicians who took the US to the brink of financial collapse, or the people who let them do it.

The internet IS that free. The filth is that widespread. For example, SPAM email traffic has surpassed real email traffic. And even with the best spam filters, you see Viagra ads in your inbox almost weekly. Another example, if you mistype a common URL, you often land at a porn site. And you can find ANYTHING on the internet.

You may be a careful internet traveler, and don't see that much of any trash, but that doesn't mean the trash isn't prevalent. Mr. Hankey is as much part of the internet as Winnie.

There is freedom of free speech in an adult forum, however pubic forums or in this case team ranks are for all ages besides adult in context. There are internet laws in each country covering online material exposed to minors, America is no exception either.
There's no such thing as a "federal Internet law," or any kind of government regulation or oversight whatsoever in any English speaking country. China is the only nation on Earth I know of having any serious government-backed filtering. Otherwise, I don't know what you think the Internet *IS*, but it's a giant telephone network where no one can tell you what to say. Each site chooses its own rules.

Immature people are annoying, but you can't shut them up on the Internet any more than you can at a bar or a shopping mall.

Forums are only one kind of site, and they are moderated by choice. I've seen plenty of forums with radically different ideas of moderation than what you're obviously used to, and most sites aren't based on the concept of a forum at all.
If the internet is that free, then the filth, trash and sewer talk would prevail. (Kinda like CB radio.)
Uh.... it does. You've at least heard of things like pornography and piracy right? Just because I can't talk about it here, doesn't mean it isn't freely available, and in enormous quantities, elsewhere. Linking some of the most popular sites in the world would get you banned here. (Taste the irony!)
Just about every forum I've ever joined on the internet asks if you are a person 13 years of age or older when registering.
Right. Because you couldn't possibly lie to a computer!

Yeah, Mr. Buttsecks is annoying, but definitely the least of your worries if you think the average 13-year old would do anything but giggle about it.

If this were only more true...
Just about every non- free country in the world has restrictions on their population's access to and speech on the net.
Sadly, there are all too many people hard at work in western democracies trying to control us, too.
It's not a left vs right thing- it's an entrenched power structure vs free men and women everywhere.
Some things never change.

I'd like to remind the censor-happy fellows here that FAH is in fact a world-wide project. If you go to the FAH website then you have the option of viewing it in Chinese, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Greek, Japanese, Lithuanian, Portuguese, Russian etc. Probably even more languages will follow as the project matures.
Therefore filtering out just the English dirty words isn't enough, you should cover every offensive word in every existing language. Good luck with that.

The offending person is on your team. Rather than filtering names, can we not restrict rogue users from joining our team? I don't have a team, so I don't know how possible it is to limit who joins one. It seems an easier solution.

Look this name appears on a "Christian" folding team ,why would this person choose this team I wonder ?as we know there are many rude and crude teams out there :) where they would love for a guy like this to be .Let me ask a question please .I saw a Gay folders team what if I went on there with the intent to put them down in my folding name. What if I went on the Hindu folders team with a name like beef-eater ? nothing wrong with that name right ?.Now I looked at other "Christian" teams and hurtful people are just posting names there to hassle them even spamming them with 10 names just search the word Jesus .If f@h is going to allow folders (with no or low points I might add) to graffiti team listings for Jews, Christians, Gay's,or who ever.... where is this headed ? I was gonna join that team at one time but don't want to see my God's name ridiculed every time I want to see my stats .I saw a name on a Christian team so BAD I can't even write it here .I hope the admins will protect our team stats from vandals weather we are Christians , Gays , Jews and I've even seen a few Satanic looking named teams but I think they have a right to live and fold in peace too.I hope we all do .

Maybe to see if s/he could get a reaction out of you and see some action on the forum. It succeeded if that was the intent.

Maybe its because Christians and certain American Christians in particular, are bigots.

Maybe its just someone you all annoyed in some way.

Who knows....and frankly who the hell cares. Life goes on, people keep folding, immature asshats fall by the wayside. ;)

you know it was my intent at one point to start a folding team for Christians to get them interested in this wonderful project . But I can't see bringing in any Christians, kids, family members or anyone to be called names , and have to put up with people with such hatred .There are millions of Christians who have computers that can fold as well as anyone else. But It seems by the admins non action and your reaction to my call for tolerance and peace that we are not welcomed here. I have one right left. My right of free will ....

Here's a really sick name for a team.

I've reported it a long time ago, but it's still there.

What's sick? Preteens can love girls. People (e.g., mothers, fathers, grandparents...) can love preteens.
