Running more then 1 client.

Post by Esandman75 »

Hey guys I want to go ahead and turn on 2 gpu clients and a SMP client for my home system.

I know in other posts I was worried about cpu usage but that was for my work computer.
I just upgraded to 2 260 gtx's and a q9450 at home and there is no reason not to have this running while I'm at work, heck I don't do much on my computer at home anyways so I could run it all the time.

Please link me to a post or artical that will help me setup the 3 clients as I can't seam to find anything.

Read the FAQs, or use the search function ... this issue has been discussed many times before.

I went to the FahWiki Main Page and did not see any title that reflected how to install multi Gpu clients.
Went to the How To's page and did not find any specific articles there. Lots of good information and help there.
Browsed the General Faq page and found a lot of answers to many common questions and issues. At the very bottom was a GPU link. At the top was a link to what seemed to be itself but in essence is the ATI Faq page. This is where the information you seek lies but the clients, cores and methods have changed much faster than the updates to this page. The fundamentals are there though. One needs a little experience to understand the nuances assumed or omitted.

On a positive note, Nice machine you have. It appears you are becoming a Fold@holic. (Interpert the '@' as an 'a')
Not that I have been able to get two cards working but the process would resemble;
Install both cards and Cuda drivers, (Use two monitors) extend the desktop
Install one client, get it working smoothly
Then study the Multi GPU faq.
<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>
After you get two GPU clients working, add the SMP client.

On a negative note, the current GPU client will expire this weekend. Perhaps wait till the new client arrives. Most Folding@Home addicts find this idea unacceptable.
Cheers and welcome to the club.

Multi GPU Setup forum thread: http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=3707

And the SMP FAQ install instructions are better now (I updated some things for Vista yesterday.)

Got it done!

Many thanks to everyone that posted here with helpfull links.
I now have 2 systems that can run the client with 2 gps and 4 cores.
Add in my one single core amd 3500+ and I seam to be able to get 10,000 points per day or so.
Give it a few more days to see how many points I do get on avrage.
