Do you mean that you had 2 different machines try Project: 3044 (Run 0, Clone 375, Gen 71) and both of them failed after completing 20000 out of 2000000 steps?

yes, they are identical G4 MacMini's

So both of your Mac Minis tried the same WU (same project, run, clone, and gen) and both failed at the same point?

Yes, I restarted folding on them both and they pulled different Runs or Clones of 3044 and are both folding fine now
