User benefit F@H PassKey????

Post by wfo »

When the F@H key was first introduced you said this would prevent cheating and bonus points would be issued to those that used the key.

Please post a list of all cheaters caught or start issuing the bonus points!!!! :D

In less than 3 years my contributions put my overall rank at 116 project wide. My power bill is $400. a month more than it needs to be and I don't even want to get into my hardware upgrades or time spent troubleshooting problems with beta clients. Post a public list of cheaters caught or start issuing those promised bonus points. It's difficult enough keeping a farm running. And jumping through hoops to enter keys in Linux running in Vmware for no benefit only incurs the wrath of those that support the project most. Until I see a list of cheaters or bonus points, I will not longer be entering my key. Username and team number should be sufficient. I haven't seen anyone voluntarily boosting my points output.

Yep! I'm whining. :D In this case deservedly so. :ewink:

Passkeys, as I understood, are a new stats related feature still being developed in the v6 environment. I'm not certain if passkeys are currently used in the checks done behind the scenes. For now, passkeys are not mandatory and may never will be. One may avoid entering the passkey as it does not make a difference or give bonus points today. When FAH eventually uses passkeys, you can decide to enter your passkey if you like bonuses or cleaner stats.

PS. There is a $5 virtual fine for whining ;)

How do you list cheaters when the Passkey prevents them from cheating? ;) So then I guess it's working.

As the Passkey FAQ and anandhanju have stated, it's completely optional. If you don't see the benefit, don't waste your time. Use a passkey or don't.

Be sure to donate the fine on the project home page. And BTW, it's a double fine, for whining, and for duplicating an existing topic. ;)

Let's think realisitically about the current status of the FAH clients. I really doubt that there will be bonuses from using the passkey until everybody has an option to use one in a released client. (No one should ever be FORCED to run a beta client.)

Still to be completed: The GPU clients are still very much in beta. Windows doesn't yet have a v6 smp client, so no passkeys for those systems yet. The PS3 client doesn't yet know what a passkey is either.

The V6 clients for Linux/MacOS have just been released. Once the other items on that list have been completed, then everyone will have the OPTION to use a passkey and there can be a bonus assigned to those who elect to move from the v5 clients to the v6 clients.

Ummm.. Okay. no passkey for me. Double fine? Grumble. Grumble. Grumble. I think I'll pay my fine in points. Should have 2 more Nvidia cards next month. By the time ATI comes up to speed 4870s will be obsolete Nehalems will be out as well as GTX 280 X2s and Intel boards that support SLI. MHO of course. :ewink:
