OS TFLOPs statistics for the last 6 months

Post by s12a »

Hello.

Yesterday I started to make a chart of calculation power (in TFLOPs) progress over time since February 2008. My intention is to keep checking out, from now on, the OS statistics pages to update it in "realtime" (= as the page gets updated). I searched forums and websites for data between February and yesterday, but as expected, there are many "holes".
I was wondering if somebody could provide a history of past OS statistics data for the last six months or, if this is already available somewhere, post a link to it.

Here's my chart:
(GPU TFLOPs statistics should be the most accurate; sometimes total FLOPs isn't the perfect sum of all OS FLOPs because some data is missing)

Why is there such a steep jump at 2008/05/02? oO

I think that's because GTA IV was released at around that time. It's been the most anticipated game for PS3 of 2008. Many people may have bought a PS3 just for that game.

I think that jump may be because they increased the PS3 "active period" to 15 days at that date.

No, that's when the PS3 client retry/flood issue was fixed...

According to the news blog, the PS3 issue happened in February, no May.

Also, I don't think GTA4 was it. The release date was April 29 (according to wiki), 3 days before that huge jump which happened in a single day. If a sudden surge of new PS3 buyers was the reason, we would see a more gradual growth, similar to the GPU2 one.

The TFLOPs figure now beats the (sum of) TFLOPs ratings of the top 6 supercomputers on the top500 list. Need to pass 2800 to beat the top 7, 3151 to beat cuurent top 10.
