Fha 27 and ram

Post by kerryd »

Looks like I am done folding . I get Not enough memory, please restart the game well trying to play games . Seems like Fha 27 likes to eat ram like up to 12 gigs of it . I do not think I should need 64 gigs of ram to run folding at home on a off GPU I think 32 gigs is plenty .

Are you playing games while folding? That is not how things work, I'm afraid.
You have to pause FAH before playing games. Some projects are very memory intensive, and 32gig is enough. Just don't fold while playing games.

Yes I play games well folding that is why I have 2 GPU's . I play games on a 2080ti I fold on a 3070 or did fold . I mean I only watched for a few minutes and seen Fha hit 12 gigs . My guess its hitting way more .

It is not hitting way more. 12GB is max with current largest project available.
I hope you understand, that FAH is compute intensive workload, which requires your computer resources. This is not going to change.

Lets see if my math works . GPU 8 gigs of ram FHA using 12 gigs of computer ram = 20 gigs . Its nether here or there With the every once in a while 20 hour WU I just not going to tie my computer up . The 3070 was got just for folding so guess I will sell it .

FOLD ON and best of luck

That is a false comparison. What you will find is that GPU folding uses little of video RAM on the card, th folding core is using the shaders for processing. What takes large amounts of regular RAM is unpacking and setting up the WU for processing. Once that is done the RAM usage should drop. It takes a bunch of RAM to unpack the information for over a million atoms in a simulation - positions, velocity vectors, type of atoms, and so on.
