v8.5.5 installation issues and config file question

Post by Schrödinger's cat »

I upgraded to Windows v8.5.5.

Firstly, the v8.5.5 install doesn't remove a v7 installation, if v7 is not installed in the default Program directory. This screws up v8.5.5 install, as the v7 Start Menu items aren't removed. The fix was to run Uninstall.exe from within the v7 Program directory, and then reinstall v8.5.5, to fix up what was missed in the first installation attempt.

Also, after adding:

Code: Select all

<allowed-origin-exprs v='^https://webclient\.lar\.systems$ ^https://([a-z0-9-]+\.)*foldingathome\.org$ ^http://(127\.0\.0\.1|localhost)(:\d+)?$'/>
to config.xml, is it necessary to leave this in config.xml, or can config,xml be populated with only:

Code: Select all

<config/>

It needs to be wrapped in
<config>
</config>

<config/> is an entity with no inner contents, only attributes.

The info on Lars needs some updates, when he has time.

An invalid config.xml will crash the current client, and cause an error to be logged in the next release while ignoring the file.

<config/> is the default, empty config (I've looked into that myself while switching to v8.5.5 today). The file can be used to di the initial configuration of the client on a headless/text-based install, as is described in the v8.5 guide (and yes, I've done that part as well today on my server).
