I'm happy to say I did not run into that situation when I upgraded my hackintosh to v8.5.5. The machine has a GPU usable under Linux, but it still showed up unchecked running macOS.

I made the mistake of checking the GPU-enabled box in 8.4.9 needlessly, and 8.5.5 compounded my issue by not giving me a box to uncheck.

I had to roll back to 8.4.9, go to machine settings, disable the GPU there because it was not accessible in 8.5.5, then rolled forward again to 8.5.5, and now it’s folding.

Except this appears to be a bug that was keeping the client from being assigned work. Would need to see what exactly was sent to the servers in the WU request by the client.
