can't update on linux
When I get to the part in the Linux Debian / Mint / Ubuntu installer in the terminal about scons –c cbang... I am getting an error... In the terminal... scons: building terminated because of errors. ... What information would you need to diagnose this? I can respond more after I get home from work today

https://foldingathome.org/start-folding/ has pre-built .deb package already.

Re: can't update on linux
Ubuntu uses deb files. And when you visit download page it gives you first option showing Ubuntu logo.
If you don't know the difference between tarz and deb, use deb.
With deb package you would have been up and running in no time

Re: can't update on linux
Deb file is executable installer. Similar to windows .exe. You can install deb file 2 ways. By double clicking it in file manager after you download it, or in terminal with apt or dpkg commands.
Double clicking is easiest, obviously, but in my opinion apt way is the best.
You open a console window in download folder, where your deb file was downloaded, then write:
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade this checks if there are any system updates. Just type "y" if it finds any to update.
Then after all is finished, type:
sudo apt install ./fah-client_package_name.deb
After that finishes, launch your web browser, punch in
v8-5.foldingathome.org
And log in to your account and start folding
