👍🏻 That's the version that produced the log snippet.

Huh? 🤔 What's unexpected?

Tonight I'll try the steps you suggested…

Immediate dump of WU when resuming folding was unexpected behavior from client.

There was no config.xml file, so I created one in BBEdit. Just for fun, I also tried to see whether perplexity.ai could elucidate the log. It evaluated most of it, spot-on, and the summary says:

Code: Select all

This log represents a typical F@h work unit running on a modern Apple device,
likely using Apple Silicon (M-series chip). The simulation is making steady
progress and appears to be running normally.
Whether that's accurate or not is entirely another matter!

Switching to loginwindow on my M4 mini works for me.
Logout works too.

Screen blank doesn't seem to be testable via screen sharing (no real monitor connected).

To be able to switch to loginwindow without a logout, you need to enable the fast user switching menubar item.
System Settings > Control Center > scroll down to Fast User Switching

If you have a fingerprint key, depressing that will get you to the login screen, and shortly after that the screen will go dark. But even when the machine is in that state, logging into that machine via iPhone and turning on "Only when idle" stops folding; it still shows with an hourglass icon. Turning off "Only when idle" via the iPhone causes folding to begin again.

I do notice log entries saying "Has Battery: true, On Battery: false." Strictly speaking, an iMac has no battery, although I do have a UPS. Does F@H recognize the UPS as a battery? Maybe that's causing a problem, though it didn't with the Intel machine.

A ups connected via usb is a battery and you can configure things related to it in system settings. I have my computer shutdown at 50% battery. Fah pauses folding on battery.

If client says on battery false, that is not a problem.

Please add the config settings I suggested and restart your computer. Then look for errors in log.

Letting your computer auto lock is not the same as switching to loginwindow, even if you see a login panel.

The machine went to sleep at some point during the night, but no folding took place. As soon as I woke it up this morning and turned off "only when idle," it resumed folding where it left off. I have the log snippet with the config.xml file added before rebooting, but it's too long to post here (164 lines). I don't see any 'dump' or signs of any errors or warnings.

A sleeping computer cannot fold.

Did you select Keep Awake?

Yes. Apparently I used the wrong term; should I have said "idle"?

Yup.
"background" means something else to me too. The client always runs in the background, even if not folding.

Did you try explicitly logging out?

No. Never had to do it before, but just for fun I will tonight.

I tried logging out last night, and sure 'nuff, F@H kept on truckin'. Maybe some other process keeps running when I just let it "idle" overnight? How can I determine whether that's happening, and what that process might be?

I don’t understand what you mean.

You seem to be saying that idle folding does indeed work when you log out.
