Multiple powerful GPUs in a single rig?
I haven't tried the new version yet, but before I start rebuilding rigs... does it now make sense to put two 4090's in a same rig as the software is capable of making them work on the same WU?

No. Multiple GPUs cannot work together on the same WU.
Yes, it makes sense to have multiple GPUs in one system. From what I’ve heard, best bang for the buck is not the highest end cards, which get underutilized.

Each card will work on it's own unit ~ having them work together on the same unit would be both more difficult and really inefficient. Each step in the process needs the entire status of the previous, so the GPU cards would spend more time talking with each other than actually calculating if they'd work on the same WU.

Multiple GPU running on single WU will never happen ... it's already hard to keep high end GPUs occupied with one WU.

as the title, we may have 2 hi-end gpus or more in a single rig, but impair more psu.
2 RTX 4080S can be served with 1200W PSU, more than 1 if you have Thunderbolt 3/4 with dedicated PSU.
As current hi-end motherboard has more than 1 m.2 rated PCIe Gen4 x4 slot, then buy related adapter and use open case or rack system.
Make sure you cool your room in pretty 25 degC or lower for tropical countries.
