v8.3.5 client rapid dumping of WUs ruined my folding user

Before I could even get to the computer - like less than 24 hours it must have dumped 2000+ WUs, rendering my user unrecoverable. I'd have to fold for a year or more to get bonus status back by the 80% successful criteria which I was well above until about 3 days ago.....

WUs Finished 2845
WUs Expired 2550
% Finished: 52.73%
Bonus Active: False

I was getting bonus points until 09.05, 12pm.
Between then and 09.06, 3am the client had to dump over 2000+ WUs to bring my % Finished down to 52.73%.

MOST annoying.... (_under statement mode_)

And the error logs aren't visible in the v8.3.5 web client interface, so I can't even get a clue as to what went wrong. It's been folding WUs successfully for 2 days straight 20+ WUs. No hope of recovering the bonus status and no way to find out what went wrong.

Recovery would require finishing 12,750 WUs with no failures which at 20 WUs per day that my client completes translates to 637 days (1.7 years).

I am going to recommend you upgrade to the v8.4.4 alpha, which has changes to handling crashed cores.

As to your ruined QRB qualification, someone else might know what you can do.

Thanks @calxalot , the 8.3.5 install was a bit of an ordeal and it was just solid until 9/5. So I didn't touch something that was working perfectly for months. So I'll update to the v8.4.4 alpha as you suggest. Hopefully the install will go smoother. It will also be good to be running a more current client.

If someone else can help with the QRB bonus, I'll be back on track. Though maybe I should wait to have that fixed until after I install v8.4.4 alpha - just in case!

I would upgrade now, rather than risk more failed work racking up.

If you can somehow figure out which project run clone gens were crashing, that would be very valuable.
Maybe look in the rotated old logs.

Simplest method of regaining bonus status is to get a new passkey. Use the same username and a different email address to get a passkey through - https://apps.foldingathome.org/getpasskey - or a different username and same email address. You do not have to use the same username in the client as used when getting a passkey emailed to you. It will take 10 WUs to regain bonus status, but that is a lot fewer than 12K WUs.

The current release version is v8.3.17, the change log is in this post - viewtopic.php?t=41542. I don't see a fix noted for WU crashing, but it does have a number of other fixes over v8.3.5.

You need to look at changelog on github

Was the cause of dumping WUs determined? Yes fahclient should have stopped at 5 dumped WUs and shut the whole thing down, but why your computer is dumping so many WUs?

Thanks for the help! I updated the client and generated a new passkey to recover the bonus and now folding happily and fault free!

I'll re-ask the above question again in case it got ignored or missed.
It is extremely important to determine why hardware failed. New passkey is not a solution, it will not stop hardware from failing.
New fahclient does many things, but it does not cause stable hardware to spontaneously fail

Likely one WU failed and then the client went nuts. The host was acting strangely but a reboot fixed it. I didn't investigate further as this machine folds for months on end without issue. May need to go in and clean out the dust at some point soon. A reboot and fixing the client and I'm now at 1 failed out of 98 WUs so far since I updated the client. The 1 failed may have been because I was messing with the host at the time.

I did not restart the client 2550/5 = 510 times in less than a day. (2550 dumped WUs / client should stop in 5 WUs)
