cannot register for account

Post by GreenWandering »

I never received a confirmation email for my account.

I tried to register again but I get an error that the account already exists.

And, no , I can't login with the account. I tried it twice.

Any way I can fix this ?

You appear to have registered okay with this account, is the account you had problem with here or elsewhere? I do know this forum has had some of its activation emails blocked or marked as spam by some email providers. Beyond adding the admin email address to your whitelist I don't know of any other general fixes.

Clearly the registration for the forum worked fine ;-) it's the folding at home client login/registration that isn't working.

Now I'm stuck because my email won't work anymore because it thinks there is an already an account.

I can hardly believe I'm the only person to have run into this problem.

well , i can ask for a reset of passphrase. there's a problem though, I don't know if it's really sending it or not, but if it is I'm not receiving it. I double checked the email address and it is correct.

just for the record, when I attemp to login I get a message saying "login disabled".

The Web Control login has absolutely nothing to do with this forum or with the email you used to get a passkey.

You need to register an account solely for Web Control.

The passkey is not a password or passphrase.

yes -that's precisely what I'm talking about. I'm not sure why that's not clear. The forum and the web control are two different things, I'm trying to get an account working for web control.

it turns out the problem is solved. My provider does not have any sort of quarantine but they DO have an "anti-spam" feature. I disabled the feature and lo and behold the validation/pass phrase resets were delivered.

I've filed a "complaint" with my provider - however I've not had this happen before so I'm a bit suspicious there's something funny going on with the folding @ home domain in some way.

I don’t know what can be done about emails marked as spam.

I emailed the lead developer this morning, maybe yesterday, about the login confusion.
I haven’t heard back.

Thanks for emphasizing this.

The verification emails might be coming from an AWS server.

I also confirm the non-receipt of the email about forgetting the account password. I have had an account for a long time ID: 136846469 but since the new interface I can no longer log in. There is indeed a problem I confirm...

Until v8 web control, there have not been any fah accounts.

Not counting experiments like stats console or some such.

There is also up to a minute delay before the validation emails get batch sent.

That could explain it. I wonder how much spam comes from AWS servers  ? if the anti-spam feature is being picky about what's in the headers it could in fact be flagging it, erroneously, as spam. Either way it's extremely annoying that my provider doesn't have some sort of trace log so i can figure out if this sort of thing is happening.

Yes, that's what I have observed. The emails, once I disabled the "anti-spam" feature, take approximately 1-2minutes to arrive.

Moreover I have now received a passkey per the instructions and that came through without issue.

No idea. But going by what I see here on the forum, less than from MS servers. I also see a few spammers that have managed to hide behind Cloudflare server addresses. But the three of those are greatly outweighed by spam from other sources. AWS and MS shut spammers down fairly quickly after they are detected.

Hello :)

I have the same problem, I have registered on https://v8-3.foldingathome.org/machines to manage all my machines and I've never received the confirmation e-mail or the reset passphrase e-mail :(

There are not in my spam folder either.

What can I do ?
