So just stick anything in the generator for the username, get a passkey, then use that with my real username?

Do you know if blocking part of the web control as I mentioned above would stop it causing the anti DDOS thing to activate?

Basically, yes. Just about any random name put in for a username will work. Just keep a copy of the email in case you forget what you used.

The second part I don't know about. I haven't looked closely enough into the web control to see if any part of it can be disabled. I am currently looking into an issue I see on one of my systems where it appears to run out of some resource after running for a couple weeks. Stopped my system from downloading new WUs. But not seeing that on my other system which is using an older OS version, and an older version of Firefox as browser. One thing I have spotted so far, with the problem system the log displayed stays the old one after closing and opening a new one each day. Reloading the web control in the browser fixes that. But that does not happen with the older Firefox running on the older OS.

I have a few machines where the log stops recording new events, but it continues to crunch ok. I monitor them all from Chrome on one machine. They don't all stop displaying the log, so I think it's at the other end. Also I checked a log manually and it hadn't updated the file.

I also get out of date information on random machines which have had trouble getting a work unit. In the work units section, the offending GPU shows waiting or some other random thing showing it's not doing anything, but refreshing the page shows it's got several percent into the next task. Only started happening since I've been getting these EOF errors. Haven't got to the bottom of it, but they seem to get one eventually, it's just making each GPU sit idle for about 10 minutes between tasks, no huge deal.

I'll stick an adblocker in Chrome (Opera is my main browser, I used Chrome to keep the web control seperate so it doesn't get closed all the time when I use my normal browser), and try blocking the stats bit. I do get an about 15 second bar when checking stats, and as someone else said that's the DDOS function giving me a pause.

I'm not sure if I have this correct. A passkey is generated by inserting any (made up) username and any email address?

After that, I can set my clients to use any username (not necessarily the one I used to generate the passkey) and the generated passkey, and that pair will create stats, and be calculated on their own for a bonus? And since the username is the same as before, the total points on stats sites will be joined together?

So what I've done is generate a passkey with a fictitious username and my real email address. I received this passkey through email, inserted it into the client, but left the client set to my real username. Will this work?

If I'm correct in all the above, it appears you can wipe your slate clean at any point of the bad WUs stopping your bonus. This is like someone who's committed several serious crimes going to the police and saying "I'll be a good boy from now on" - a fresh record is created, and once you've been good for one day, you're no longer considered a criminal and everything in the past is forgotten.

Basically, yes - though why would you 'clean your history' when you are only required to complete 80% of assignments before the deadline?

To sum it up, users can be identified by a name and/or passkey, i.e. a pair of values.

Name is mandatory - you have to set it in your client settings - but there are no checks for duplicates, so you may set it whatever you like, including 'user' or 'anonymous'. Passkeys are optional but still preferred to have.

So it is your sole responsibility to decide if you will use a unique name and passkey, or the same name and passkey, on each of your machines that run the FAH clien.

With different user names but the same passkey, work units will be credited to different users and they will still get bonus points.

And if you set the same user name and different passkeys, the work units will be credited to different users, but all stats will still be combined by the user name on http://stats.foldingathome.org

You can still track individual work units in the database at https://apps.foldingathome.org/wu, list the users by their machine id at https://apps.foldingathome.org/cpu?q=User and track their bonus stats at https://apps.foldingathome.org/bonus?user=User&passkey=

This external stats server will make separate records for similarily named users in different teams:
https://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/search.php

You may also use a local stats server like HFM.Net for Windows https://github.com/harlam357/hfm-net/releases

I needed to clean my history because a GPU failed and broke 34 WUs in a row. According to someone over on Github, it should have stopped after 10, but it didn't. Luckily I saw it doing it or it might have gone on forever.

At https://apps.foldingathome.org/bonus it's not showing my new one yet, even though I changed it long ago enough for at least one WU to be done from start to end. I guess I need to wait longer for things to be checked and updated on the server.

It's was unfortunate, but I would just mine these 150 units since it only takes a few weeks on a modern GPU.

You could also register your username on a different email - for example, there are a few dozen users named 'Peter', each with a different passkey:
https://apps.foldingathome.org/bonus?user=Peter

The bonus page above lists user/passkey combinations from the work units database, i.e. those who completed at least one work unit, no matter finished or failed, with both username and passkey entered in FAH client settings. Merely registering your passkey is not enough to activate your bonus, you need to enter the passkey in settings then complete at least 10 work units, with a success rate of 80%.

I need precisely the same username for my gridcoins, aswell as the stats. It seems getting another passkey with the wrong username then using it with my real username worked. If you type PeterHucker_GRC_53ed9d9b7d568cb7eb1ccc25a7dc4492 into the user field of https://apps.foldingathome.org/bonus you'll get three passkeys under it. The new one must be the one at the bottom currently saying 14 1 93.33% True

FYI, an earlier forum thread on this same topic:

Is it possible to have multiple accounts & passkeys?

One of those has 6 GPUs (all on a single 2.6kW PSU!), one has 3, the others have 1.
DmitryKo wrote: Mon Jul 31, 2023 1:21 pmFailure rates seem a bit high though:
https://apps.foldingathome.org/bonus?us ... 25a7dc4492
Only line three is since I changed passkey: "24 1 96.00% True"

The others are because of one machine which crashed the GPU driver, folding just kept on trying.... not sure why it crashed, it's only done it once.
