web control is not showing points
For the last 24 hours it has been running but it does not show jobs being credited and no points are being credited. I've reboted the machine, etc.
But nada, Is it me or is it you ?
Thanks in advance
Val

Nothing will be displayed until you complete and return one work unit.

Re: web control is not showing points
Looking up your probable username I see about 3 dozen WUs completed. So some points information should display.
In the past I have seen reports that the Web Control page sometimes will freeze up and not update various parts of the page. Seems to depend on which browser is used and whether the window or tab it is on is considered "active". Often reloading the page will update things.

Re: web control is not showing points
Thought I posted a reply but I don’t see it.
In any case, it was running fine and then it had problems. Yes, it did ok for the first 3 dozen and I believe it dropped two units. Other problems were it was showing 9 million point, very long processing times, etc. The points per day counter was way low.
It seems to be back on track now.
1. Is there a log someplace which shows activity, i.e. downloaded / processed / credited?
2. A list of trouble shooting steps to “fix” when it hangs ?
Thanks in advance

Re: web control is not showing points
Folding does keep logs and you can confirm what has happened with any work units your machine picked up. Logs are usually located at:
Start>Folding@Home>Data Directory>logs This applies to most installs under windows. You can use find commands to find all work units downloaded, uploaded, credited, etc. Sometimes it is simply easier to search for errors and any that did not return.
A much simpler way long term is to install HFM on your system.
https://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?t=9903
Once installed it will show you information of all your processed work units, and is much easier than combing through logs. It isn't perfect but it's pretty close, and is still being developed as well. I'm not sure, but I don't know if it works with the V8 beta yet. Which version of F@H are you using?
Personally I've never been fond of the web control. Unless you are using the Beta you can use F@H advanced control.
Start Menu>Folding@Home>FAHControl
If or when you have any errors, the best remedy is look for the specific error and any troubleshooting tips or hints mentioned here on the forums. If you have no luck, simply ask. Most errors are related to unstable hardware, drivers, and such things. Once in a while a true bad work unit goes out that has issues within the work unit, but rarely overall.

Directions above for finding the logs are for Windows. I noticed when looking up your stats that you are using macOS. The logs will be found in Library / Application Support / FAHClient. Or you can use FAHControl, that is included in the Folding@home folder in the Applications folder.

Looks like this like points at a Windows Version of HFM. What am I missing here?
Thanks in advance Val

Not missing anything. Many people assume Windows when making suggestions. It is possible to run HFM on another system with Windows installed or in a VM, and it will connect to F@h clients running macOS or Linux as well.val shebeko wrote: ↑Mon Jun 19, 2023 11:23 pm Looks like this like points at a Windows Version of HFM. Re: web control is not showing points
Val,
I had made the suggestion under the assumption of you being a Windows user. I really didn't know if there was an easy way to make HFM work for other OS's.
Glad to see it sorted out easily though. It's a very good tool to keep track of things and watch for trends, problems, etc.

Re: web control is not showing points
Hello,
I suppose this is new user hell, but here I am
I was doing good, but I just finished a work unit and the thing hung. Log shows attempt to connect and “broken pipe# while fah shows paused.
I did fiddle with setting preferences where the choice is let the machine choose or specify graphics. I specified graphics and it did indeed run much much much faster.
Don’t know if the issues are connected or not.
What;s the possable problem and the fix? I looked ar the forum but…. No wiser.
Thsnks in advance

Sorry to bother but I don’t know what is useful for you and what is chaff.
FAH keeps cycling between running and going to update., every few minutes.
Back and forth, back and forth.

Re: web control is not showing points
I'm not familiar with the code you mentioned. If you can copy and paste it from the logs (if possible use the code display tag next to the quote tag) someone might recognize it. I've never had update try to continue running like that either. Which version of F@H are you using, and when you say running is it actually making progress with a work unit?
