Not thermal throttling on your 3070M? Even showing 100% GPU, if it is clocking down every other cycle or something would take a lot longer wouldn’t it? Perhaps other workloads never get it to true 100% and kick in throttling? Just a guess… you likely have already looked into this.

Not sure, but it's not likely that, but I guess hard to say. Not a huge deal, just really odd that out of the shoot it came up with such crazy numbers. Hopefully I can take the laptop out of the fold so to speak once some of the cards come down in price a bit. Not much break yet.

What kinds of PPD are you getting on other projects with the 3070M?

The GPU-z logging used now and then on various work units might help determine any thermal throttling or hitting power limits.


As for GPU prices... I don't think I'd hold my breath much. They might slide down slowly for a while, but I think the big adjustments are over with for a while. With the regular 4070 supposed to be hitting the market soon, that might help a little, but really I doubt the 40 series is going to move much in price.

Hard to say for the 3070m, but not 18hrs for 400k points. Usually more like a couple of hours for that range. Seems to be related to the 15XXX projects/WU which on some of my cards are 1.1M to 1.3M points in a short period of time. I think their is just something odd with these. Hopefully they get knocked out soon and back to some that possibly are more tested, or not. Not a huge deal as they eventually will get all done. Just hope the data that is being processed is good for the research and not a problem.

Yeah, still 'Limited' supply of 4090's, some still out of stock, but saving a bit on the card can apply to the electric bill, which is something somewhat high these days

But I guess it's the price you pay for that kind of points return and contribution. You are informally queened as the top producer for the default team.

I've seen some stating that the 4080s were the real value as the 4090s often couldn't find big enough project to really stretch their legs. It seems as the GPUs get more and more powerful the variance in points grows larger.

But in either case it's the proverbial catch 22... pay more for hardware and reduce the electricity cost of points, or spend less on the hardware and watch that ever growing monthly bill.
