Re: RTX 3070
You should be able to, there are over half a dozen 3070 entries already on the list between desktop and mobile GPUs. If your 3070 happens to have a device ID not already present on the list, then that can be added fairly quickly.

Re: RTX 3070
Welcome to Folding@Home!
The RTX 3070 itself is supported by F@H but as Joe_H says if your card has never been used by any other folder, you may need to give us the device id. Just try and I'd bet it will be easy.

Re: RTX 3070
I just got the 3070, it seems to be slightly higher than the 2080 super, how do I get the little box Joe_H shows?

You need to be on a team that is tracked by the site.
Online: GTX 1660 Super + occasional CPU folding in the cold.
Offline: Radeon HD 7770, GTX 1050 Ti 4G OC, RX580
Re: RTX 3070
I emailed the person in charge of the sigs, and he got back to me within 24h. Polite and friendly, he entered my name into the database before i was qualified for said thing to happen.
GPU only
RTX 3060 12GB Gigabyte Gaming OC [currently mining]

thanks

I was hoping it would show a specific system & GPU
btw, on my system with the 2080, task manager shows GPU at near 100%, while on the 3070, GPU is 50.1%

Re: RTX 3070
Task manager lies. (well, by default, it shows CPU utilization to feed GPUs, not GPU utilization)
I would use GPU-Z for an accurate sensor of GPU Utilization.

The 2080 has 2944 shaders and the 3070 has 5888. Depending on the size of the protein, it's really diffiult to find something to allow 5888 instructions to be run in parallel so many of your shaders are much more likely to be idle. FAH is designed to fold ONE protein at a time.btw, on my system with the 2080, task manager shows GPU at near 100%, while on the 3070, GPU is 50.1%

hi Bruce, thanks for the information. Which unfortunately means that my two RTX3070 are not being utilized to their full extent
Re: RTX 3070
You can nudge your client towards high atom projects by sorting this list by atom count: https://apps.foldingathome.org/psummary
and then setting your project preference to the causes which have the highest atom counts. This is just a loose preference though, and even within a cause like Covid-19 there are projects with widely different atom counts. To wit, the simulations of spike proteins and the main viral protease have atom counts in the hundreds and tens of thousands, while a possible drug compound might have an atom count below five thousand.

Re: RTX 3070
@gunnarre - thanks for the hint.
If I understand right, I could choose 17220 or 17231. Both are on top of the list with 707.654 atoms. However, how can I know to which disease these two numbers are assigned to?
The setting in the web control window only let's you choose between diseases, but not project number - at least from what I can see.

Re: RTX 3070
looking up those two projects shows that they are owned by Neha Vithani and they are both part of the CORONAVIRUS PROJECT

Re: RTX 3070
oh, I see - I didn't think of approaching the search from this side
many thanks!
Edit: so I guess if I choose "Corona", the chances that my two RTX3070 are well utilized are high - is that right?

Re: RTX 3070
Based on the proteins being studied today, the 3070 may be more than you need. You'd probably be better off with a system that can handle two GPUs that are somewhat smaller. There's no way to predict what proteins will be studied in the future.erich56 wrote:I consider to buy a PC with a RTX 3070 inside. Will I be able to crunch FAH without problems?
