ERROR:WU01:FS01:Exception: Invalid core package

Installed Windows 10 client v7.6.21 yesterday (Oct 27, 2020) set up for cancer "folding", and the client has been periodically attempting to obtain "folds" to work on. Unfortunately all attempts to acquire data blocks result in message (from log): ERROR:WU01:FS01:Exception: Invalid core package

As a result, 0 progress since installation. Why is this?

Do I need to install CUDA as a pre-req? I see that the CUDA dll was not found - is it not distributed with the client?

Cuda is for nvidia gpus .. so your amd wont use this ... so that wong be the issue ... I'll check the log and see if I can spot anything.

It is odd both your slots gpu and cpu are having this issue ... I am wondering if something like av is doing something to the downloads or if there is some permissions oddity ... hopefully someone with deeper tech knowledge than I will weigh in.

So no GPU - but why the "invalid core package"? Shouldn't the client download a CPU package? (instead of GPU, as this graphics card is not supported AND missing the DLL? ) Or is something else wrong? NOTHING is processing - client just keeps attempting to download an invalid core package periodically, as noted in the log)

That looks like a network problem. Can you access the cores from a webbrowser?

Maybe some firewall blocks downloading the *.fah files or a virus scanner deletes them?

Your kit is running both gpu and cpu slots .. ignore the cuda report as irrelevant for your card .. something is corrupting your core downloads for both gpu and cpu slots .. if you look at the logs you can see both folding slots are having this issue .. anti virus or firewall is probably most likely culprit but maybe permissions as a long shot .. check the av logs and see if it is reporting the cores as quarantined/deleted

When I set up my Windows 10 system with Malwarebytes, I made sure to set it up to trust the *:\Program Files (x86)\FAHClient folder. So that it would not treat what was in it as a potentially unwanted program or malicious software. You may need to configure your anti-virus/firewall software to do that, as others have suggested.

(replace the '*' with the drive letter where Program Files (x86)\FAHClient resides)

Thanks for the response. No A/V log info relating to FAH. The programdata/fahclient/work/00 contains file wudata_01.dat 2,278 KB, and /01 contains wudata_01.dat 28,913 KB. I pointed my browser (Firefox 82.02) to http://cores.foldingathome.org/win/64bi ... ore_a7.fah (named in the log file) and it downloaded core_a7.fah, 6,876 KB into my "normal" browser downloads folder. No A/V messages issued or logged. Windows 10 20H2, 64 bit

There appears to be an error in the Windows client (details in log above). I started Wireshark just before "Next attempt" time in "Client Advanced Control" reached "0". Here's what I found:

1. Client performs a DNS lookup for "cores.foldingathome.org" -> DNS returns IPv4: 65.254.110.241
2. Client establishes a session with said IP, but is shot down by by a "301 Moved Permanently" to Location: https://api.foldingathome.org/win/64bit ... ore_a7.fah
3. Session is terminated
4 Client attempts to establish session to http://cores.foldingathome.org/win/64bi ... ore_22.fah
5 Client is shot down by 301 re-direct exactly like that in in #2.
6. Client apparently gives up at this point, and goes to sleep until "Next attempt"
The problem is that the client SHOULD HAVE attempted to connect to https://api.foldingathome.org/win/64bit ... ore_22.fah in #4 (the re-directed URL) AND NOT the original URL again
Just as a suggestion - why do the re-directs? Just have the client start with the https "api" URL.

P.S - the re-directed page is not found if I attempt to go there from my web browser.... so may be other issues in addition to the re-direct issue (is this re-directed URL actually an api - as thwe name suggests - for xmlhttprequests?

Your AMD Pitcairn GPU [Radeon HD 7800] is not supported by CUDA (which is for NVidia, only) but it should be supported by the AMD drivers in conjunction with a suitable OpenCL package. I'm not familiar with the details of installing that package. Perhaps someone else can help.

Your CPU slot will probably resume folding when more projects are generated. For the time being, you are getting the message

which suggests that the only thing you can do is be patient.
