Re: v7.6.20 MacOS FAHControl doesn't work
I have MacOS Mojave 10.14.6 and the new 7.6.21 gives me the same problem. I can't launch the FAHControl application. I'm going to reinstall 7.6.13 for the time being.
Re: v7.6.2(n) MacOS FAHControl doesn't work
Just to add, 7.6.21 FAHControl also doesn't work for me (echoing gunnarre). While I still telnet into the Client to do what I need to do with it, I'm now also running the 7.6.21 FAHClient with the 7.6.13 FAHControl successfully. So the older Control surface seems to work fine with the newer Client.
Re: v7.6.2(n) MacOS FAHControl doesn't work
Same Problem with 7.6.21:
7.6.13 works fine on the Mac 10.15.7
Web URL works on both versions, and both version fahclient works fine
Code: Select all
LSOpenURLsWithRole() failed with error -10810 for the file /Applications/Folding@home/FAHControl.app
Web URL works on both versions, and both version fahclient works fine
Re: v7.6.2(n) MacOS FAHControl doesn't work
Not sure if this helps but I didn't see it in the thread. Maybe a Python2 or zlib problem? This is what I get in the logs when I try to run the binary directly from terminal via /Applications/Folding@home/FAHControl.app/Contents/MacOS/FAHControl...
Code: Select all
Traceback (most recent call last):

One person who commented on the existing problem report on GitHub - https://github.com/FoldingAtHome/fah-issues/issues/1576 - does mention the error message about zlib.hadfiiw wrote:Not sure if this helps but I didn't see it in the thread. Something changed between version 7.6.13 and the last two releases. Both 7.6.20 and 7.6.21 FAHControls work okay on older versions of OS X, and the 7.6.13 version works on Mojave and Catalina as well as older versions of OS X.

Re: v7.6.2(n) MacOS FAHControl doesn't work
Just an FYI - my MacBook Pro updated its OS to 11.0.1 (Big Sur) Thursday night. FAHControl in version 7.6.13 still runs fine.
Re: v7.6.2(n) MacOS FAHControl doesn't work
Where can we download previous version?

awesome. thank you.
Re: v7.6.2(n) MacOS FAHControl doesn't work
I have found that if I use the web control it will fold just fine even on the new version. use the Web Control.url in the application folder for folding at home. it should get you back in business.

It does work. but I wanted to control my other devices in one convenient location.Garver77 wrote:I have found that if I use the web control it will fold just fine even on the new version. use the Web Control.url in the application folder for folding at home. it should get you back in business.
Re: v7.6.2(n) MacOS FAHControl doesn't work
Don't use FAHControl over the public internet. The protocol is not encrypted (it's just telnet) which means anyone sniffing the traffic can take control of the folding nodes. Worse, FAHControl older than 7.6.20 also has a security vulnerability that might make it possible to take over the machine that you're running FAHControl on. (I don't know if this applies to the Mac or Linux versions of FAHControl, or only the Windows version.)
Use encrypted VPN or SSH wrapping if you want to control remote folding.
For controlling folding on other machines on your home network, it should be fine though.

The FAHControl security vulnerability affects all platforms.

Re: v7.6.2(n) MacOS FAHControl doesn't work
Posting an update, a repackaged 7.6.21 installer for OS X has been posted on the Folding@home download page. It has a fixed FAHControl that should work on all OS versions.
In addition this installer has been signed and notarized with Apple. There should be no need to override Gatekeeper when installing on Mojave or later macOS versions.
