CPU/GPU stuck on yellow, WU stuck on Update_Core

Hello,

I'm helping a friend of mine start folding, but they're running into a couple issues. First, the installer wizard thing would crash and not finish installing the FAH client. They say that other similar installers work fine on their PC, so I think it's limited to just the FAH client installer. I think they've managed to figure it out and get it installed, but it still has issues launching sometimes I believe. The main problem is that when the client gets up and running, on all default settings, the CPU and GPU idle and are stuck on the yellow circle. Clicking "Stop Folding" and starting it again does nothing. In the Advanced Control window, the selected work unit's status is "Update_Core", with no progress being made. This is without any other programs running, and the client set to "When I'm Working". Side note, they eventually want it to be only on idle for gaming if it works out.

Any idea what's happening here, and any possible fixes?


Their PC specs are:

Ryzen 7 3700X

RTX 2070 Super

Windows 10

Can you please post the log file from your friend's system? Ensure you include the first 100 lines which will inform us of what the system configuration is and what the client settings are. If you require guidance, please view this topic: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=26036

Have you put the Power slider on "Medium" or "Full"? GPU folding will not start with the slider on "Light". There are likely other issues too, if the CPU won't fold, but we'll see what the log says.

I'm going to go with your friend's security software. The FAHClient needs permission to act like a browser and download things. Most security software provide default settings allowing known browsers to connect to internet sites and download things but FAHClient isn't included on their list of known browsers. You'll need to add an exception to his security software.

To test this theory, you can disable the firewall/AV software temporarily and see if the problem is resolved. If so, then you do need to add the exception becuse you don't want to be hassliing with disabling the firewall every time FAH needs an updated FAHCore.

Ok, thanks for all the input. I'll ask them for their log file and put it here once I get it. I think we tried all the power levels, so I don't think that's it. I'll also check about the security software.
