Maybe a good idea. All 3 slots are folding together, then GPU slots just goes idling. One after upload, one after download. No crash, no error, nothing...

From what I have read here, AMD GPUs and Linux may require a specific version of drivers for older GPUs. Also, the current V7.6.9 can be easily installed on Ubuntu 18.4(?) which is the previous LTS assuming you would like to use FAHControl. The Latest LTS version has dependency issues as FAHControl still uses Python 2 but work is done to move it to Python 3.MayPen wrote:...Maybe I'll try to run it on Ubuntu.

Experience with Windows laptops we lend to students where I work is that an unactivated Windows 10 installation usually works, but the nag popups sometimes keep some things from working. Whether that applies to folding going on, I don't know.
The laptops are on a managed software key system, this just happens if the laptop is not connected to on schedule. So it is a bit different environment.

GPU WUs don't start automatically - RDP

Sorry for the potentially dumb question but i couldn't find any simmilar issues in this Forum.
So I have multiple folding rigs I use for folding with some old GPUs I had lying around. One has a R9 380 and the other a R9 270x. I have both machines running somewhere where the noise wont disturb me and access them via Remote Desktop. The Problem I encounter is that both GPUs will continue folding after ending the remote connection, but they will not start a new Work Unit until I log in again.
The machines are both running Windows 10 and i didnt have these issues until some time ago, when probably a Windows update changed something. When I set up these rigs they would continue folding WU after WU. The log does not give any useful information either. The log just states that after finishing the WU the client saved and Uploaded the Results, downloaded a new WU and then theres a gap of hours or days, depending on when I log in next time, and then it just starts folding normally.

Heres The log again, this time from the previous log start to present. A 16 hour gap between cleaning up and starting computing can be seen in the last 20 lines.

I don't know, I never encountered that problem, although I'm also routinely using Remote Desktop. But it might be a permission problem. If the installation refers to an admin user, it might stop working after a WU when you, as admin, are not logged in via Remote Desktop and the machine is left with a non-admin local account. I suppose that it could happen if you installed FAH with your admin account via a Remote Desktop Connection. If so, it should be solved by a local re-installation.

À propos Remote Desktop Connection, you may not know that there is now an app for that, allowing to pre-configure and run several connections simultaneously from Win 10 machines and/or mobile devices (iOS or Android).

People have reported various problems with using Remote Desktop to connect with Windows machines and GPU folding. More seem connected to use with systems that have AMD GPUs and drivers. Can you try using a different method of connecting such as something based on VNC or Teamviewer?

Historically, using RDP would kill the GPU folding due to limitations from Microsoft. However, that seems to have changed recently so was thinking if you disconnect from the remote session (thus, still being logged into the system) or do you sign-out of the remote system?

AMD RX 570 GPU stalling on start of new WU
Hoping someone can clue me into a fix. I have a AMD 5600G with a MSI Gaming Plus MOBO. It has both the integrated and a RX 570 graphic card for GPUs. I have configured a CPU slot using 7 threads and a GPU slot configured to use the RX 570. For a long time all was working well, especially after I under-volted and set the clock to a static 3800 to avoid over heating. I have an HDMI output going to TV, but normally I login and out using RDT. I've started to notice about 3 weeks back that every time I RDT back into it, the CPU is chugging along but the GPU is sitting at 0% but the job was checked many hr's ago, maybe even a day ago, all depending on how long it's been since I last checked the box. If I just watch it, it will then start to process after a few seconds. It seems like after it completes a job and downloads a new one, the GPU is going to sleep while I'm not maintaining an active remote session. I've gone through my power settings and made sure there is nothing that would be allowing display or pci setting to power it down (display is set to never and pci link state power is off). I have the latest Redeon 20.7.0.2 installed, but this has been going on at least 4 updates back. I have tried setting the GPU slot index from -1 to 1 to make sure it's not looking for the integrated GPU. At this point I'm sort of stuck but think it has to do with some way the GPU stack might be altered when I log in via RDT vs from the normal console. I have a number of other boxes, different CPU and MOBO and only my laptop that have NVIDIA cards also have integrated graphic. No issue with the NVIDIA like this. And things were working fine for a long time. There have been to many windows updates and AMD updates to rule out anything, but I have not updated the MOBO bios since I set this one up back in Jan this year.
Does any of this sound familiar? I know this computer can do better if it weren't losing its time bonus due to the late starts.

There have been reports that RDT causes Windows to disrupt FAH's use of the GPU drivers -- depending on a variety of factors, probably inluding your software version. Check FAH's log and find the crash and see if the time corresponds wot when you used RDT.

Thanks for the suggest. I'm not seeing any crash that would line up with my log in times but the log does seem like it's was working on things for the WU after the time indicated as the assigned time 2020-07-16T09:17:38Z and is currently still working on it. project id 14310 (221, 64, 17)
It seems like it just did nothing on the WU02 unit from 09:19:42:WU02:FS01:0x21:Version 0.0.20 till 16:32:32:WU02:FS01:0x21:Completed 0 out of 25000000 steps (0%) which I think is when I open up my RDT session. Weird isn't it.
