A big thank you
to all you genius boffins who understand how to science the sh1t out of this (quoted from The Martian).
You are all up there with the Front Liners doing their best for humanity right now.
It is truly humbling to see scientist and layman join forces in this common cause.
You have no emblem, no wailing siren, no uniform.
You work quietly, tirelessly, meticulously.
I know I speak for many.
Thank you.

Re: A big thank you
A "Thank you" to all the folders is in order as well. If it wasn't for you, boffins would be sciencing the sh1t out of this for several years, instead of weeks for any given simulation

Foldies were included..."and layman"
A generic asexual term pertaining to primarily myself.
I prefer Foldies. Folders are where you put stuff and forget where it is.

I do too, but another useful term is Citizen Scientists.muziqaz wrote:I can still fall back to "donors"

As we all get or own preferences, I tend to use volunteers for those allowing and encouraging their PCs to fold.
Anyway, I am proud of all of you! Anyone can sit and whine about social distancing and wearing a mask, but to be helping solve the questions needed to treat this disease, you are wonderful!
(I have not yet lost a friend or family member, but the congregation of the church I run the sound for is thinning markedly. And yes, we are streaming the service)

Right now, I'd rather have the technology to send what's left of COVID-19 back to the sender--FedEx International fees due on delivery.
Or at least make them sweat for awhile.

Donors sound medical. Like, organ donors.. Or 'procreation donors'.muziqaz wrote:I can still fall back to "donors"
I prefer folders.
We could also call em 'follies'?
Or would that be offensive

Re: A big thank you
It took me a while to realise that the donors were us, the supercomputer owners/operators.
I suppose we are donors, after a fashion. We're donating to the cause exactly what they need, processing power, and the money that would've been the donation goes to our electricity supplier instead.

A big thank you to the admin's and project managers, for bearing with me over the past few months.
Right now, we're all trying to pull off a major scale miracle--on computers that vary in terms of hardware age, capabilities and reliability.
