Project 13413

Post by pylgrym »

My GPU just completed WU 0x0000000012bc7d9a5ee9acd50f164299 (r/c/g: 342/14/0) for this project. No complaints, but the points assigned seems a bit generous, the ppd rate is about 25% above my usual maximum. I don't think it's done a successful unit that fast before.

Also, should the project cause be covid-19 rather than unspecified?

Kind regards

Mark

Welcome to the F@H Forum pylgrym,

According to this (https://apps.foldingathome.org/wu#proje ... =14&gen=00 you seem to have been credited with correct points. Please note that Project 13413 are experimental in nature since they are focused towards COVID-19 research, specifically the Moonshot project (https://foldingathome.org/2020/05/28/th ... -moonshot/). On a less powerful GPU, WUs from that project would be able to fully saturate it since it only has 4,082 atoms which may result in a higher PPD. If in doubt, you can post your log file for us to investigate. If you require help for posting the log file, please review this topic: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=26036

Thanks for the heads up! I've updated the cause in the Project Description!

We've seen a lot of heterogeneity in the PPD for this project, but are working on benchmarking all GPUs on a range of projects to better refine PPD calculations.

What GPU are you using? :)
I see about 15% lower PPD on the 134xx projects (albeit, I have yet to receive a 13413).

Generous? not for my TitanX which is at about 60% of normal points per day with these

Vega 11 returned well above average PPD return on 13413, my highest ever PPD on 13409, but low PPD on 13408.

I just fold them either way, but this thing seems to thrive on the smaller atom count WU's. I really want to pick up a Project 16908. It's only 2500 atoms, smaller than any other WU right now, and it's a GPU project.

As far as you guys with the power cards that are only getting lower returns on some projects.... just be glad it's a short term thing since they complete quickly. When I get a WU my stuff struggles with, it's a 24 hour thing, so that PPD return is literally the points for the 24 hour period. I think 13413 was the quickest time period of any WU I've had, but even that was at almost two hours.

I don't see Vega 11 in GPUs.txt. What species is this? 5?

Depending on when added, it may show as a Vega 8 or Vega 10 mobile. AMD uses the same device ID for these as they are the same chip. The 8 and 10 have some of the shaders present on the Vega 11 disabled.

The first identification of the device and its ID was used in GPUs.txt.

Edit: This is probably the entry:

Code: Select all

0x1002:0x15dd:1:5:Raven [Ryzen vega 8 mobile]
There is a later version installed in the 4000 series Ryzen processors that identifies as "Renoir".

We get a lot of complaints that "FAH mis-identifies my GPU" but I have not found a good answer except to say AMD identified many GPUs with a single hardware ID and FAH doesn't change the performance depending on which name is used.

IIRC the newer Picasso chips are the same way, with one device ID covering several different APU models.

If it's of any help, Project 13413 was one of only a couple projects I've noticed that didn't use 100% GPU utilization. I think it was in the 85% range, with CPU use slightly higher than normal. Usually with this small onboard graphics setup GPU utilization goes to 100% and memory allocation adjusts based on the size of the project.

From my understanding the Vega 8 and 10 just disable cores as Joe H mentioned, but some of the newer Picasso APUs also run at higher stock clock speeds. So the Vega 8, 10, and 11 should be fairly similar in performance across the chips that now use them.

GTX 1080. I''ve since done 4 more 134xx units. All a bit on the high side for my GPU, but not as extreme.

I'd normally expect an average of about 780k ppd, the original was 1M, the last 4 were 835k to 865k

Well, you can safely dump it now.
Pause, delete the GPU slot in Advanced Control, quit Advanced Control, open %AppData%\FAHClient\Work and delete the folder "02" there. Restart FAH and add a GPU slot. It should then download another WU
