Previously i recall having to do slight modifications to run extra cards, forgive me as its been years since running multiples.
Can the new HDMI type video cards work in multiples with no monitor ?

Hi yes you can run another GPU not attached to a monitor, it makes it easier if it the same type of card AMD or NVIDIA as the card that drives the monitor.
Once you have installed the card usually is enough to install driver and reboot. Sometimes you will have to go to 'advanced control' > 'configure' > 'slots' and add the 2nd card manually.

Not sure if you're aware of this or not, but you no longer need dummy plugs for the secondary GPU to operate at full frequencies.
