Client 7.6.13 in Medium settings use 96% of my GPU

Post by KtC »

Hi, I am a new donor using client 7.6.13.

I am using client in Medium settings. It seems the CPU usage scales with that settings to around 50% comparing to 'Full' settings.
In other hand my GPU stays at 96%. Fans on my GPU are very laud in Medium. That force me to use 'Light' settings.

Is it possible to adjust that GPU usage in Medium settings to around 50%?

Thanks.

Welcome to the F@H Forum KtC,

Please note that for CPU folding, you can adjust it on a per thread basis. However, for the GPU, it is all or nothing. The reason is that CPU has OS level support of scheduling and priority. However, the GPU does not have OS level support of scheduling and priority that's comparable to CPU.

Ohh. I see. Maybe it is possible to lower down the clock of my GPU. Will try to search some info about that.

You can use tools like MSI Afterburner to limit GPU power usage and so reduce heat and noise.

If possible you can also add a silent case fan to help GPU with cooling.

I found very interesting options in ThunderMaster app provided with GPU. It is called "Prioritize GPU Temp. Target".

I set the target to 60oC. It limits the fan spin to about 1300 RPM. It is acceptable for my ears.
Also the GPU clock can be lowered by -400MHz. In fact that conditions makes the same GPU temp around 60oC.

My case use 120mm fans and is quite 'airy'. The noise is coming strictly from my GPU fans.

The size and number of fans is irrelevant if the static pressure and CFM values for them are too low. If you have to throttle the GPU it indicates you possibly need better case fans.
