Win10 7.6.9 doesn't add a slot for my GPU
So I recently did a full fresh install of Win10 on my desktop on a new SSD. Just installed F@H, started up fine, but I only see a slot for CPU work. No GPU, which it had previously. I have a Nvidia 1080 GTX which was auto-detected previously. I did install the most recent driver package direct from Nvidia as part of my install, but before installing F@H.

Already tried that. I have to reboot, not stop/start F@H background agent?
EDIT: Ok, stopped the background agent, started it as Admin. Went into the Advanced Control, added the GPU. It picked it right up. Stopped the agent/controls, after a few cycles got it back up NOT as Admin, and it's running now with the GPU detected!

Welcome to the F@H Forum Drizzt321,
Please note that there's a known issue where the GPUs.txt file isn't downloaded when the client in V7.6.9 starts up. Hence, you were unable to add the GPU slot. However, after reboot, it did managed to get the file so you were able to successfully add a GPU slot.

I'm having the same issue, but even after several reboots I've had no luck. Is there a way of manually downloading the GPUs.txt file?
I'm having this problem on a laptop with a GeForce GTX860M

Download the beta, https://foldingathome.org/beta/

Ah, good to know, thanks.PantherX wrote:Welcome to the F@H Forum Drizzt321,

And it wasn't a reboot, it was a restart of F@H.

^ just confirming that PantherX solved it, had the same problem, restarting the machine after install picked up the GPUs.txt file (apparently) and all has worked since.
UPDATE 1: This was true on Computer A. On Computer B, none of the obvious solutions discussed here has solved the problem. I'm going to try the beta and if that doesn't work, will reinstall the production version and post my log here.
UPDATE 2: On Computer B, Beta 7.6.13 picked up the GPU on the first try and it immediately got a WU and started grinding. So whatever the glitch was, it was likely solved in between.
Thanks all!

I have a similar rig with 5x GTX 1080s in it, I was having the exact same problem with the GPUs not loading.richmintz wrote:^ just confirming that PantherX solved it, had the same problem, restarting the machine after install picked up the GPUs.txt file (apparently) and all has worked since.

The fix that worked for me was the Beta 7.6.13. Worked like a charm after fresh install!
thanks guys!
Re: Win10 7.6.9 doesn't add a slot for my GPU
I've tried the 7.6.13 beta and that doesn't see my GPU either.
I'm going to try a complete uninstall and see if I can make sure there are no folders or files left behind and then try again.

Re: Win10 7.6.9 doesn't add a slot for my GPU
After running search of my c: drive and registry to remove every trace of folding@home that survived the unintall & reboot, I installed 7.9.13beta and it found my GPU successfully.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Installed->doesn't recognize any GPUs -> restart -> No GPUs -> uninstall -> reinstall -> No GPUs -> several restarts -> Still no GPUs.
Any ideas?

HaloJones wrote:I would suggest that you:
Manually download the GPUs.txt file from here: https://apps.foldingathome.org/GPUs.txt (right-click save as GPUs.txt)
Exit the client
Copy the GPUs.txt file from the Downloads folder to %AppData%\FAHClient
Reboot your system
Start up the client and ensure that you can see your GPU in the log file
Add a GPU slot from FAHControl -> Configure -> Slots tab -> Add -> GPU -> OK -> Save
Let us know if that works or not
