GPU wu processing idles when signing on to Windows

GPU wu processing slows from utilizing near 100% of GPU to an idle level of GPU. This occurs shortly after signing on to an existing Windows session (not logged out, just locked session). FAH still reports the job as running however the ETA steadily climbs. Pressing Pause then Fold restores processing to full power. It happens on a regular basis when signing in and no errors are logged. Web control is set to "While I'm Working" and Medium power.

This screenshot shows the GPU dropping from ~1000MHz to an idle of 300MHz immediately after signing on to the computer. It was taken at 08:54.

As a workaround try to keep FAHViewer opened. As 3D app it should trigger GPU highest boost clock.

I'm not sure how feasible that request is given that the video card is not a Nvidia chipset! While the issue doesn't happen every time that I use the computer, it has happened the last 3 mornings without fail. It is rather obvious as the fans are roaring away until the moment I try to use the computer.

Whoops, that's right... I thought that it was a Nvidia GPU and missed that it was an AMD one

I had previously set this to 5% less than default to make the card more stable. I have returned it to the default clock to see if that helps.

Adjusting the clock speed didn't make a difference. Some clarification to what I originally posted. This actually occurs the moment that the computer "wakes", i.e. it is not necessary to actually login for the processing to become idle. My first thought is that this is somehow power management related but only setting that is enabled is to turn off the display after 15 minutes.

What do you mean by "computer wakes"?

I regularly turn off my display virtually (I don't use the physical buttons, just a command https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/nircmd.html) and I know that the rest of the system is fully functioning and GPU folding happens. I have been using this method since 2016 across dual GPUs and later, single GPU without any issues. I do have an Nvidia GPU.

To make use of a GPU, Microsoft requires that it's associated with your logon screen. I'm not sure of their reasoning -- maybe it's a security thing. Many versions ago, it used to be possible to run FAHClient as a service ... and you still do it that way in Linux ... but not in Windows. It's out of our control.

You'll notice that during the initialization of FAH, it carefully detects many features of your hardware, including your GPUs and then it concludes the initialization process with a message. Win32 Service: false. If you happen to have a system with no supported GPUs, you can fold just with your CPUs, and under those conditions, FAHClient can be run as a Windows Service.
