Radeon R9 M360 showing as Radeon HD 8800M in folding @ home

It seems that a lot of GPU problems revolve around specific versions of drivers. Though AMD has their own support structure, you can often learn from information reported by others who fold.

Radeon R9 M360 showing as Radeon HD 8800M in folding @ home

Post by Astanb »

Granted it is working but the F@H client thinks it is a HD 8800M is odd. Although I do recognize that the client has plenty of known issues with AMD cards. Hopefully someone has a way I can fix this? The card is a HP specific one. I'll have to look up the HP part number. I do know that it is using a mobile chip in a desktop card. The only reason that I even bought this card was so I could have dual displayport card in a single slot format. It was the only one I could find that was what I wanted.

If AMD did not reuse device IDs and GPU chips so thoroughly, it would be easier to keep all of their different GPUs identified individually. Essentially the two are the same hardware, the description attached to the entry is based on the first instance the device ID was reported and whitelisted.

Sooner or later that will bite us. Those are very different chips to have the same ID.

Well there are 4 different device IDs in the file that identify at Radeon HD 8800M series, so it depends which matches up with the R9 M360. I don't see an option on TechPowerUp to search by device ID unfortunately.
