Light mode still makes my MacBook loud and idle doesn't work
I have set my power mode to light, but my MacBook Pro (15" Late 2013 max spec) is still getting really loud when running. Also, if I use the option "Only when idle" it never seems to start running.
Am I missing something here or? (I'm on macOS 10.15.4)

Welcome to the F@H Forum Piipperi,
On Mac, idle is considered if there’s no user activity for around five minutes: https://foldingathome.org/faqs/fah-v7/v ... er-slider/
Regarding the fan noise, it could be due to the increased CPU temperature so just ensure that your system is clean from any dust and that there's nothing blocking the vents.

Re: Light mode still makes my MacBook loud and idle doesn't
Laptops aren't ideal for something as computationally heavy as FAH. They're simply not designed for long-term load. And Macbooks are particularly bad at cooling. I have a Macbook Air and after trying to fold on it have given up.

Yeah but the thing here is that I had my MacBook Pro over night on screensaver with idle option turned on but it hadn’t folded anything...PantherX wrote:Welcome to the F@H Forum Piipperi,

Looking at the last configuration which is this:
I would suggest the following:
1) If you would like to get more points, then get a passkey and once you qualify, you will get the bonus points: https://apps.foldingathome.org/getpasskey
2) Just use a single CPU slot
Also note that the initial portion of the log which has your system configuration as detected by the client is missing.
Code: Select all

So how do I get the full log?PantherX wrote:Looking at the last configuration which is this:I would suggest the following:Code: Select all

You can click on Refresh at the bottom right of the log window, that reloads the log from the beginning and then you can scroll up. Or you can open the log file directly, go to /Library/Application Support/FAHClient and you can open log.txt in TextEdit. Then copy/paste the beginning section.
To help in cooling, if you have not already elevated the MacBook or placed it on a cooling tray, do that. The added air circulation under the bottom panel will add to the cooling.

I am also folding on a MacBook Pro (15 inch 2017). Definitely think about getting a cooling platform. As I use my laptop for gaming, I have a Thermaltake platform that I also run when folding.

Re: Light mode still makes my MacBook loud and idle doesn't
Idle on macOS is is when the login panel owns the screen for a while, or the screen goes to power save (off) for a while. The screensaver running is not considered an idle state.
