CPU stuck on Project 0 - but GPU fine

Post by MiraNova23 »

I only started last week, and I can't find what to do about my specific issue so here it is. I had some computer trouble and was getting errors but everything seems to be fine again rn, except for this. My CPU is hanging on Project 0 with no Collection Server IP... It does have a Work Server IP & does say it's "Waiting on WU assignment," but the attempts keep timing out. Is this what it's supposed to look like when there's a shortage of WU assignments? Or is this something I can get unstuck? The GPU has taken off again and is working fine churning away & showing good percentage progress at least. Thanks!

Yes, this is what a shortage of server capacity looks like. There are WUs, but at the maximum rate the servers can maintain and still also receive work back, there are many times when a connection will occur when a WS that can take another connection and has a WU suitable for your system's request will not be available. Or between the time server has indicated to an AS it has that type of work, it has run out when your connection is made.

Basically in less than 2 weeks time the servers were expanded to be able to provide 10x as many WUs an hour. However in that same timeframe the number of users grew at least 20x.

One thing you can do, the timer between requests does take an increasing time before making another request. If that get to be over a few hours, you can pause the client for a minute or two and then restart. With the Web Control this will be for both the CPU and GPU. Using FAHControl you can select to just pause the CPU and leave the GPU running.

To do that, in FAHControl right-click on the CPU slot and a small context menu will pop up. There are several options available including Pause and Start.
