Estimated points = base points immediately after download?

Post by itskieran »

I have seen this a few times recently on my laptop (i7-7700HQ set to 5/8 threads and GTX 1050 Mobile) where as soon as a WU downloads, the estimated points are already at the minimum.

As this is my first post, I can't post links (as you need 0 posts to post links - the wording is a little strange), but I have taken a screenshot and will send the link if requested.

F@H is the only thing running on this laptop, as I rarely use it since buying a desktop PC.

Is this a problem with my setup? I have the passkey set up, so at the very least I should be seeing QRB points there, right? Is there anything I can do to improve my situation, as a low point score makes me feel as if it's not working correctly.

Maybe wait a while till the WU is done folding? The points sometimes change through. Try to send a screenshot. If you can't, just try posting a link to one?

When you are assigned a project that you've worked on previously, your client remembers how long your hardware took to complete it so it can estimate the completion time. That estimate can be refined if during this session, your progress is faster or slower.

If you have NOT worked on this project previously, the initial estimate has no data so something must be guessed. Maybe the base points is a good place to start, but the software still doesn't know how long you'll spend processing it ... and you might decide to pause for a bit, lengthening the time it takes to finish. For CPU projects, the actual progress made in the first 15 minutes is used to refine the estimate. For GPU projects, the first measurement that can be used for refinement is often 5% of the WU but the project developer may choose some other percentage of the WU.

If you're patient, though, the numbers will stabilize on an accurate estimate.

Also, the FAHClient software doesn't know if you have a qualified passkey yet. so any estimate of the points can be radically different than what you will actually be rewarded in accordance with the Quick Return Bonus policy.
