Can't change to COVID-19?
So I started up folding at home and it defaults to folding for a bacteria trapped under Antarctic ice.....I want to fold for COVID-19 and not this. I went through all settings....I can't figure out where to change this to COVID-19...?
Re: Can't change to COVID-19?
The COVID-19 projects are prioritized and there are many being released but other research may also be useful to the effort as well. It is difficult to say that a discovery about one thing may not also provide useful information. Keep with it at the very least you get to test your system capacity to process units.

Re: Can't change to COVID-19?
I have a 9900K and a 2080Ti. I know it can process units, but I downloaded and started this to help with COVID-19 and not a organism trapped under Antarctic ice.
Re: Can't change to COVID-19?
you won't be studying organisms trapped under anything.
all the GPU work being assigned are for CV-19. i haven't see anything else for a week. be patient, let your system fold. it will all help. when CV-19 is de-prioritised then stop. but for now, please accept that you are working on CV-19 with your 2080ti which is extremely helpful.
if you really don't want your cpu to help with cancer, or alzheimers, then pause your cpu slot for now until more CV-19 cpu units come along.

It says under the project area that I am folding for research for Halorubrum lacusprofundi which is an organism trapped under Antarctic ice. Not sure how this is COVID-19 research....HaloJones wrote:you won't be studying organisms trapped under anything.

Re: Can't change to COVID-19?
Project 14190
Disease Type: unspecified
Halorubrum lacusprofundi is a microorganism found in the extremely cold and hypersaline Deep Lake, Antarctica. This microorganism has a polyextremophilic β-galactosidase that works to break down carbohydrates. Recent work from the DasSarma group identified six key amino acid residues in β-galactosidase which, when mutated with amino acids conserved in homologs from mesophilic haloarchaea, induced significant changes to the catalytic efficiency of the enzyme and its temperature dependence (1).
We are running molecular simulations of β-galactosidase and its mutated variants to explore how these subtle sequence changes affect the behavior of this enzyme at various temperatures. We will analyze the trajectory data to formulate explanations for the mechanisms that cause differences in catalytic efficiencies.
In the future, a better understanding of how evolved mutations help optimize enzyme efficiency may lead to improved methods for computational enzyme design.

Re: Can't change to COVID-19?
When you're assigned to a server that has COVAID and other projects onboard, there's always a chance that a dip in the availablity of ta priority project will cause the assigment of a lower priority projects. (I'm just guessing that's what happened). If you had happened to be seeking a new WU a few seconds earlier or a few later, you and the next work assignee would have probably switched projects or one of you might have gotten the dreaded "No WUs for your config." message.

Re: Can't change to COVID-19?
Think about it this way - If you're not folding one of the COVID work units, some else is. They're assigned with the highest priority.
Re: Can't change to COVID-19?
It's a matter of timing. The instant you happened to be there, you did get the highest priority WU but the list of available WUs changes very rapidly.
