Resurrecting a Zombie Team

Post by Neil-B »

I used to fold a good few years ago but change in circumstances meant I had to stop … jump forward a decade or so and another change means I am back folding :D

I have been adding to my old team name but the team name (an old email address) is no longer relevant (the email account doesn't even exist and more) and I would like to change it … It is long enough ago that I have no clue as to passwords - and I guess reset requests would go to the old email address anyway - is there any way I can somehow verify who I am and that this was a team I set up for my families machine and therefore get it reset to my current details?

Currently have two machine running … Neck-W and Gob-S

hi Neil-B, great that you want to help but do please understand that this will be a very low priority for them right now. Use the team number and your stats will help the team. When this craziness is behind us, perhaps re-ask your question.

Keep folding!

Realised that … but wanted to post the question for when things normalise - partly as a reminder to self tbh

So things are a bit less fraught than they were back in March so I'll "bump"/"re ask" this :)

If someone has time/expertise/access to help with this I'd appreciate it ... basically I created a team for myself to collect various user stats to for a variety of kit using the email address I had at the time ... the isp doesn't even exist today and the email address is well and truly defunct ... would rather like to get access to the team to change team name to something more up to date and have my current email attached to it ... I am happy to jump through whatever hoops are necessary to prove this is "my" team and that I am the sole contributor (in the past I folded on my wife's pc and also my late father's pc but currently all kit is mine).

This is a trivial/very unimportant request and fully understand that is won't take any priority over real stuff - but if I don't ask ;)

I have messaged someone. Given how close it is to Christmas break, I am not sure if the person would respond or not but let's wait and see what happens :)

I am roughly in the same boat. i created my team when I first started folding back in the 3.x client times, long long ago. No idea what the password is for it, but also not really bothered. Still put points into the team regularly. But would be nice to update the team logo location to my current web server.

Admins and Mods are your best bet and it looks like that has been done. I had to retrieve mine long ago and as I remember Bruce or one of the other admins pushed it to whomever was dealing with the teams db back then and I got a pm with a password dump a couple of weeks later. So you will probably get an answer, but might take a bit. They are good like that.

I've always wondered what the team logo is for? Nobody can see it except for when u go to the team editor, no?

Yeah thinking about it, it probably no longer works. Back in the days of Pandegroup when you went to your stats page you could have your teamlogo display on your stats page. But looking at the current stats page, no logos display anymore, so maybe it is a deprecated feature that someone removed to save a couple of ms of db lookup time on the query. But the homepage at least still points to my old domain, even if the dns for it went belly up long ago. So i could resurrect it with a little Bind magic if I could be bothered. ;)

I have a similar issue with requesting access to a non-managed team. I have been folding for this team for about 15 years, but the creator left our company many years back, stopped folding altogether, and I have no way of contacting him. Our team may not be in the top 100 or anything, but I am proud of what we've built up and would like to be able to manage the team. Even if I requested a password reset, the creator would no longer know how to contact me.

If there is a way to transfer ownership, I would certainly like to do so.

Hello F@H Contributors,

I apologize for the delay. I'm here to help you as needed. Please email me with your specific team concerns/problems at eric.sorin@csulb.edu and include your team name, the name and email address of your team founder (or let me know if that is you and what email you used), and your team number. I can then look your team up in our database and give you help as needed.

Fold On...
Eric
